One of the all time white female soul singers. Nice husky voice with range and vibrato. This is when people could really sing. She was fantastic.

I can't say that I know anyone old enough to have listened to Dusty in her prime that wasn't a Dusty fan.

And I really enjoy the the album that came out several months ago by Shelby Lynne that's a tribute to, and was inspired by Dusty Springfield.

As far as "This is when people could really sing" - there are still plenty of good singers out there.

For example, as I type this, I'm wearing an Alison Krauss & Union Station tee shirt. Cool

Hi Stu,
Add me to the list. I have all of her recordings and have been a long time fan. I also am enjoying the Shelby Lynn tribute. Last month I posted my lap steel verson of "I Only Want to Be with You," one of my favorite Dusty tunes. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=142602&highlight=chuck+lettes

Y'all are guys of obvious taste and class.
My fave from DS is "Stay Awhile".

And, as long as we're talking chantuese's from the '60's, lets add Dionne Warwick to the short list of the awesome.

Man. I've just looked around on YouTube and listened to a bunch of her vids. Unbelievable soul. I agree the Shelby Lynne CD a while back was great too, but the song arrangements were different in most cases.

From some of the references online, it looks like there's a Dusty Springfield biopic coming out next year staring Nicole Kidman, believe it or not.

Another big Dusty fan here! Stu and Skip, glad to know my buddies have similar excellent taste in vocalists. I LOVE the Shelby Lynne interpretations. Note that our fellow steel player Dean Parks handles guitar on that CD.

I'll have to check out the Shelby Lynn Cd,I'm a Dean Parks fan...I use to wait on line for at least an hour when he played the Baked Potato.I just rejoined a band up here that has a girl singer who does a bunch of this kind of stuff...no room for my steel onstage just guitar,I get to play a surf medley.Today it's two above zero and I'm numb, nice to hear from all of my old partners in crime.Stu Whoa! Whoa!

Hearing Dusty's voice brings back good memories of being a kid in the 60's.

I never tire of hearing her sing the look of love.

Check out Diana Krall's version on youtube. You'll love it and her too.
