I Have been approached to do this show locally. I know that some of you guys have done this(the theatrical show) around the country and would be very grateful if anyone would be willing to talk to me about it so that I could get an idea of what is involved before I commit to it.
Thanks,
Byron

E-mail me, Byron - I've done it about fifteen times(!) around the country.

I'd be happy to help if I can.

Hi, Byron, I've signed on to do the Atlanta run of "always Patsy" and in the same boat as you are, love to hear from anyone who's done it. I just got the score, will certainly have to brush up on my reading! Looks to be a lot of fun.

i did the show several years ago at the ark rep here in litle rock.it was fun.you follow the script and do certain songs on cue. you will have practice and a run through before the show for sound checks and timing.its fun guys and you will always remember doing the show.i hope you have some good acters that can also sing.good luck.

The show ran here in Denver for 3+years. Eight shows a week, 1700+ performances.

I had the contract for the steel chair, but also negotiated being able to use subs at my discretion. Which I did a lot (thanks Chuck Lettes, Tom Broderick, Dan Jones etc.). Depending on the MD, it can be a lot of fun, and the steel gets the most freedom of all IMO.

Enjoy it, I did...

There are TWO shows (maybe more) that chronicle Patsy Cline's career.

I'm working with a vocalist who has performed in the "Closer Walk with Patsy Cline" show. According to the star of the local production of that show, it is the one officially sanctioned by Charlie Dick and the estate and by Willie Nelson. In fact, the artist who plays Patsy has to sign a contract agreeing never to do the other show and the production company has to send a video of a dress rehearsal for the approval of the estate before the show can go on. I was really surprised when I heard that.

I filled in for Drew for a weekend in the "Always Patsy" production he mentioned above and they are similar, but not all tunes are the same and arrangements are different (and not just like the original recordings).

Byron, Some good friends of mine are going to be in that show in Idaho! Pete Kowitz is going to be the sound guy and his wife Sarah is the fiddle player. They're really excited about it. Email me and I'll get you their email address.

Sounds like it's just "Patsy", a narrator, and a band.

And I just got done asking them if there was going to be a steel player....too wierd...

The show ran here in Charlotte for 5 weeks out of the scheduled 8..

Bryan Hudson was on the gig , and he is one fine player just to let you know.

The schedule was 1 show per day for 8 weeks and it got canned after 5 weeks. It paid $75 per show.

The reason I know this stuff is I also had the call on my answering machine and did call the show producer the next day..but you know what that means..pick up the phone when it rings or forget about it..

The show being cancelled , I guess we here in Charlotte are not ready for the big time yet..maybe if they moved the show to the Moose Lodge it woulda' gone over better !

I did the show in Norfolk Va about 4 yrs ago and had a blast. Our show ran for a total of 9 weeks and did an encore about 3 months after for 2 additional weeks. It was a very rewarding experience and well organized. You will enjoy it.

I did the show a couple of years ago for a week, then a one-nighter in another city. I had a lot of fun, and as someone mentioned earlier, you'll never forget it.

When I did that show, a bunch of us guys had to wear dresses, pantyhose, wigs and false eyelashes among other false things....hmmm, maybe that was a different show.....does "Always Patsy" involve a rubber chicken?

Thank You all so much for your responses and encouragement. Unfortunately I have been unable to come to terms with the Producers who are local. The budget is so low you guys would think I'm joking if I told you what they want to pay. Oh well, maybe another chance will come along someday.
Thanks again, the Forum has to be the greatest asset and resource that has ever come along for me,musically, and I very much appreciate you all taking the time to help.
Best Regards to all,
Byron

I'm doing the Always- Patsy Cline show in Dickson TN, I've had to dust off my old chops, playing Jerry Byrd, Don Helms, and my favorite, Walter Haynes licks. All great stuff, It's really a fun show but you have to be on your toes so you don't miss a que. Great material and it's helps if you got a good Patsy.
