Two Dates with Hank Thompson...

Post by Jerry Brightman »

Hi,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be doing two dates with Hank Thompson and the Brazos Valley Boys...

I understand the Columbus date(June 21), is a private party, but the Cleveland date on June the 22nd, is at the Beachland Ballroom http://www.beachlandballroom.com

I'm still wondering how I'm gonna look in a cowboy hat Image Herb Steiner, can you help me out!

Hope to see you there...

Jerry

Jerry-
Hope you have fun and I'm glad it's a private party on Saturday night. Too close to my show for comfort, haha. Have a good time!

Anybody who cut his teeth with the man from Hee-Haw needn't worry about how he's gonna look in a ca-boy hat! Image Have fun, JB!

Jerry, I seen you in Columbus and enjoyed your playing! I don't think you should wear the red pants with a cowboy hat. Tell Hank to keep it country. Have fun!

Ok Guys..No red pants for sure...but Herb Steiner just called and has helped me arrive at a decision for my selection of the proper cowboy hat...You'll just have to go to the dates to see it Image

Thanks,

Hey Jerry, I just worked two shows with Hank in Wichita Falls, Tx. weekend before last and I too was at a loss as to what to wear.
Maybe I should have called our buddy Stiener for wardrobe recommendations also, whatcha think ???? Image Image

Hey Jerry, you already have the "right shirt" to wear. And it will go with any hat you choose. :-)

Roy, yes I suggest we put Herb officially in charge of our wardrobe...

Mike, I wouldn't give up your hat since the famous, Columbus hat toss incident...But thanks ole buddy...

Danny, Think collar Image

Kurt, I'll be buying up any pictures taken in order to bury all the evidence...

Well, with "hat" in hand, Im off to play...

Thanks guys, this was really fun...

I had a ball playing for Hank Thompson.

He has this Heritage Jazz Box with a vibrato arm that is like two feet long !

Maybe not two feet but it is big..

Have fun.

Hello Tim,

I wanted to, and didn't say it very well that these dates are with Hank and The Brazos Valley Boys...I've heard many great things about these guys, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the show with these players. I understand that Hank also performs without the band at selected venue's...

Thanks for all the email and comments...

My best,

Jerry

Hank played our area last October. Small gig for him,(A local opry seating 350 folks) so we got to be the band. What a kick!!! Hank was very friendly and fun to pick with. He covered 99% of the lead himself, So I kept on grinning at the other band members while I cranked out swing bass licks. Sometimes it pays to play bass!!!! Image

Hi Jerry. Just talked to J.D Walters and he said to tell you he appreciated you taking his place with Hank. Knowing you from Hee Haw and knowing the rest of the as I do, I know all went well. He also wanted extend an invitation to steel players who come to the shows to come up and say hi. Make note he will be in New York at the Lincoln Center, July 12.

We, Plumb Country was Hanks band about 3-4 years ago here in Cen TX. As a matter of fact it was at Franks Lakeview Inn and Anchor Club on Lake Belton. We had a blast and he was very easy to work with. He did about 1.5 hr show and we did the rest. Great guy and great show. He still does a very good job at what he's known for. He just sent us tapes and we learned the songs. Had a great time and would do it again given the chance.

It's great to hear all of these wonderful experiences you have shared with me as players...I also wanted to thank my long time friend, JD Walters, for allowing me the opportunity to fill in for him this past weekend...

There were some pictures taken at both events, and after I receive them, I will try to post them on my website...

I witnessed the real deal last night, as the fans really responded to this great performer...They knew every song, which album it was on...truly a great moment for me to share this experience with this great legend and band...The heart felt applause and the standing ovation at the end of the performance, was the icing on the cake...I actually started feeling comfortable in a cowboy hat Image

My best as always,

Jerry
