John, to my ears, this one sounds the best.(the 2nd one of the two you posted)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF67wbp8mVI&fmt=18
I use head set. Logitech. I could have made it sound even better if I listened thru my big ear phones via the Alesis Multimix8
#2 sounds more like stereo. A bit better quality and more body.

Al, first I have to know what you actually mean by saving them.

Do you want to save them to your hard drive? or..

Do you want to just save them within Youtube and go back later and play them from within youtube again?

I have my computer connected to a 300 watt home stereo with a pair of KLH speakers. It is amazing how good those youtube vids sound.

Bent-Thanks for your response. I just want to save them to the hard drive so there is no delay, when I want to play them again.

What do you meaan about saving them Within YouTube?

Do I always have to wait for a 20 minute download before playing, all the time on the same YouTube song?
Once they are downloaded, can I save them for instant replay later?
I dont have the time to listen to all the guys YouTubes when it takes so long to download them, and I wish I could get it going faster....al.:):) :D

Al, if you have DSL or Cable service in your area, it would be Instant playback.

However, I've noticed that should my cursor be up near the Top Right hand corner of the videos while they're playing, a box pops up asking, if I want to download the song.. I don't, because they play instantly anyway. It would probably take you the same amount of time to get it downloaded (using a Modem) as it would to watch it the first time around, but after you have it downloaded, it should go ok. Depending on the amount of memory (RAM) you have, etc..

Hope that helps..

Now I'll go see which one of the above, sounds the best on my system..

Al,
Ok now I understand a bit better. You have a dial-up connection which causes the 20 minute downloads.

So I can see where you want to save them to your hard drive.

This is a bit difficult because youtube tries to discourage downloading and saving to hard drives.
What you have to do are 2 things: Download the clip to your hard drive, and then convert it to a readable format by your PC.
There might be easier ways of doing this that I am not aware of, but they have never been explained in an understandable way. It's not enough to say: I use XYZ program.

Here is how I do it and I will explain as good as I can:

Download a program called Easy Video Downloader here:
http://www.videodownloader.fdrlab.com/
...scroll down and click on Download
Install it.
Then, when you want to download a youtube vid, open Easy V D.
-Highlight and 'copy' vid name, and then 'paste' this in the 'Video's URL' box in EVD
Next, in EVD, make sure SAVE AS: avi(high quality) is clicked.
Click on Download

Now you will have the vid in your hard drive.
Next you need to have a program that is able to play avi format
The one I use for this is VLC player which you can download here:
http://www.download.com/VLC-Media-Playe ... 67151.html

Before you go to the step of downloading this one, please try using Windows Media Player first. It could be that the new one is able to play AVI..I just don't know because I always use VLC.
Hope this helps, Al

Bent-Wow! That is a lot of information from you and very concise. I'll work on that. I didnt know it would be so hard to do. Wish I had DSL. You guys are lucky to be able to get it.Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Don -thanks for your input, I'll check that.

John- thanks for all your responses to my Audio and Video questions....al.:):)

John, leaving all else the same, definitely the second one is much more pronounced, but definition seems to be missing (possibly normal before mix).

Please don't take any offense to what I'm about to say, because it's probably due to the transport on Youtube. So instead of me saying it, I'm going to ask you if you hear what I'm hearing on my end as one example:

Do you hear at (starting) 04:29, what seems to be played flat or not? I say or not, because it may simply be on my end.

Or maybe it would be better to ask if anyone else is hearing it that way?

This is not to criticize at all. I'm one who believes when anyone asks a question, a person should give his/her honest answer of what they are hearing. So, I hope you take it that way, as opposed to how many others (possibly) would.

Again, on this end, I was hearing a thin sound. (understandable) since during sessions, everything is usually leaned toward the thin side, to be fixed up later.

Others may have heard it quite differently. John, I've noticed at times, "You Tube" does seem to run a bit messed up. Other times, it's ok. (that's in reference to what you had asked in the remarks section of "You Tube."

But the difference between the first and the second, was as night and day, with the second one being the best overall. Volume jumped way up as well.

Hope that helps to answer your question. But again! That's only how it was coming across on this end.

Other than the above it was overall good.

PS: I just gave another listen (to the first one) taking it forward to Steel Guitar Rag. It's sounding as if you're using a "SITAR" Bar (on this end)?

I think something must be wrong with YouTube? Anyone else hearing it that way too?

Don, thanks for replying,
youtube are now compressing uploaded files as much as 10.1.
this knocks the stuffing out of the songs or tunes.
If the uploaded file is Bass heavy then then any thing below that is commpressed. Now this is what has happened to Steel Guitar Rag, saying that is was not a very good file in the first place, I was looking for some of my recordings with C6th guitar. as I remember I used to take a tape recorder to the sessions and record the playbacks from the headphone outlet, I liked to hear what was played before they messed it up..
As far as the flat notes on the track I cannot hear that, I did however notice that the track did slow down a tiny bit at the 4.29 making it sound a fraction flat but as everything slowed down then maybe I would not have noticed it....
The point I was trying to put was why would the biggest public video host in the world would let you only hear you work in MONO , we live in a stereo world. Stereo will not use up any more bandwith then MONO....
Thanks for your honest reply John Roche

John, are you playing in this video with "Ifield."?

A real fine job of pedal steel, played as it should be! "Frank is a great entertainer, as well as, a singer."

Getting back to your original two (asking which one sounded better) My opinon is that somehow between you uploading them, and Youtube converting them into their format, something got screwed up along the way.

Your playing in the video link I posted in the above, is so very much greater than it (otherwise) had indicated, to be, in either of the other two (by far) on this end.

Again, a "Super Fantastic" job.

PS: My sincere apology. Had I heard this one first, I'd have definitely known better than to indicate that you're playing (possibly wasn't up to par) and didn't sound all that pleasing on this end.

It's therefore, that (just possibly) you'll want to remove the Misleading material, so folks WILL hear you as you "really" are!

But as I had said, I gave you my honest opinion of exactly how I had heard it to be.

Again, a fantastic job of backup playing, done and sounding as it should be.

I hope it comes across to others, the same as it did on my end.

Folks, this is one you'll "definitely" want to hear!

Don, Yes that was me way back in 1980, We played at Pebble Mill studios Bermingham studios in the UK , the show was a big hit back then, it went out at 1.00 clock mondays to friday for many years.
There is a funny story about that day , I was playing my ZB D10, the jack socket on the guitar broke about three or four minutes before we went out live,
I had to cut my guitar lead and connect the wires using a soldering iron lent to me by one of the sparks on the set, it was pretty close but we got there.
If you would like to hear how I sound now here are a couple of links..no need to remove remarks and no offence taken...John

John,

I really enjoyed listening. Very smooth and precise playing, and the tone was also Superb! Great intonation as well.

You played the twin parts great. I would say, that Sierra really is a great sounding steel, but then again, we've already discovered, it's the one who's sitting behind it that makes one sing.:D

So I'll say you definitely do that Sierra justice sitting behind her. Yet I will say, intonation, has a whole lot to do with the steel that's being played too. So you both make up for a great team.

Thanks John, I really enjoyed listening. Excellent!
