Combinding Hobbies
I had a request from a friend in the USA to see some of my paintings, after a visit to their home in Alexandria, Louisiana back in 1997, I gave them one of my paintings of Chief Joseph of the great Nez Perce.
One of my friends died a few years ago, his wife has asked if she could see some more, so I though what a easy way to fulfil her request by making a youtube video and putting some of my old recordings on it.
Most of my paintings have sold so what I got left are those,
some are my impression of the impressionists , Van Gogh whome I adore.
Seeing that I have overdone the posting this week
it will be my last for a while...
By the way the first song will give your stereo ears a work out...

The Talents Of John Roche

John : You make me cry with envy; Your pictures are magnifient; By golly, your talents surprise me greatly. I love the one of Princess Diana, The three Dogs, but all of them are exquisite, my friend. I have recently taken up the hobby of " Oil Painting ". Finished my third one a few months back and it now hangs on a wall behind my daughter's desk in Austin College in Texas. But nothing I try will ever match your artistry. Grand job, mate..Bernie

Thank you Bernie, but the video makes then look blurry.
I taught myself by copying the masters painting,
The ones you see here are the rubbish ones.
There must be other steel player out there that paint as well, to me it goes hand in hand playing and painting.
It must be something to do with being creative.
so come on you guys who can paint let have some of your work. life is to short, try everything. you never know what talent you hidden inside you... John Roche

Nice paintings John. I admire people like you who can express themselves through pictures. I am over 60 and still at the stick-people stage.
These days I combine my hobbies also. Like today..I was sitting in my nice warm shop with a fire going in the wood stove...working on my steels and playing David Hartley's CD. My trusty homemade steel sitting within reach...When I got tired of cutting out raise and lower bars I would sit down at the steel and play a tune. Then back to the building, feeling refreshed.
It is a fine feeling to be alive and able to do what I like doing. I'm retired and thoroughly enjoy this life. I have the love of my family, my health and my steels to build. What more could I possibly ask for?
