For Bent and Bernie , or anyone else

Post by John Roche »

I found some of my old recodings backing other acts , with the band Barbary Coast, I found that I had done some on the C6th neck. I not what you would call a C6th player, but I was asked to get that sound, so here they are, Youtube is now messing up peoples audio when you upload by over compressing the audio. My files sound pretty good until I upload.

Hey John, I left a message on your site.
I think it is great to hear stuff like this and follow the picker's development. Interesting to see yours. Thanks again for your contributions.

Wow, John, You are a young lad here with your videos of your C 6th talents protruding forth for all we forumites to enjoy. Good show, buddy. I enjoy seeing many of our friends showing some of their efforts back in the old days, so to speak. You were really doing some fast picking, John. Nice looking Sho-Bud..Bernie

Thank you Bernie, I'am afraid I was winging it a bit.
as I was not that good on the back neck as it might seem. Fear is a great motivator and not getting paid is even bigger, but if you enjoyed them thats what count. I have redone all my videos, so if you have time to trawl through the ones on the steel guitar forum and have another listen I think you will be supprised at the quality, they there all in stereo now.. thanks my friend John

Hi John - at least you had a go. Most UK players that I know who have twin necks do not play C6 in any shape or form. A very expensive armrest. If they do go on to the 6th neck, they just play in the open positions with no pedals to get the 6th chords which they could do quite easily on E9. The best C6 player in the UK is Pete Heywood - he is excellent.

C6 takes a different mindset. If someone is entrenched in E9 country stuff, it can be difficult to 'swing' when changing necks. I've been working quite hard over the past 2 years to improve my C6 playing and chord knowledge. You did a pretty good job on your back-ups.

Ken, thanks. back then I believe I used a couple of the C6th pedals, the seventh for sure .
As I now play Sierra uni 12 I find I use a few more for chords, but not for soloing, I am much quicker just moving the bar about...
