Common terminology. Simply---looking for someone for the long haul, to share the expenses and to spend time growing with the band as opposed to a pick-up pro. Some people regard 'hired guns' as a negative thing which is immature and basically stupid. Some people regard 'no hired guns' as a negative too. There's a place and a need for both and there's nothing wrong with stating what you need. I've seen the stupidest Craigslist arguments on this subject.
The term "Jobber" is used in the same way.
I've seen too many startup projects that want 100% commitment, but have no gigs lined up.
They'll eventually learn what reality is about.
I've recently seen an ad from someone that insisted on "no side projects", but checking his MySpace showed he was involved in several.
