Jerry, you are correct to a point. I do want to learn as much as possible about the steel guitar. But as far as purchasing one, it is a consideration, just not possible at this time.. Thanks for your input!

Winnie's main objective and goal when publishing 'the SG Bible' was to get the rank know-nuthin' to be able to bridge the gap...the basics of how these things work and some of the basic theory. The bridge between the know-nuthin' and the accomplished player. Judging by how many times that 'Beginner's Bible' has been re-printed, I'd guess that he at least hit most of the nails on their heads. Study the 'numbering system' and by all means, don't ever shy away from a Jeff Newman course....he was IMO the best there ever was at the 'instant-gratification/instant-results' form of teaching. Once you hit those 'splits' for the first time, the light bulbs will light!!! From there on in, it's an investment of time and study and a lot of work. I am convinced that if a person wants to truly learn this instrument, they can. BTW one of my 'students' is an accomplished lead 6-string player and he's 73 years old!!! AND he's knocking 'em down on his new GFI!!! The sky is the limit!!! AND he doesn't know the numbering system nor the charts!!!
