On Sat. Aug.16th my Daughter had a big neighborhood Luau & pig roast cookout. I had invited anybody from the Forum living locally to come join in the music !! Harry Dietrich showed up with his 1937 Gibson 6 string EH-150 and just played the heck out of his unusual "E" tuning doing Hawaiian and steel guitar instrumentals!! Also Andrew Roblin joined us singing and playing the uke and doing some nice Hawaiian music on his Shot Jackson 7 string Dobro . Also with Andrew was his friend Jo Ann playing a very unusual Jamaican folk instrument , a bass boom box , that really helped the sound !! I joined in with my Rickenbacher D-8 DW-16 non-pedal steel . Also Andrews friend Richard was there taping all the music !! All the guests really enjoyed the days music and we received many compliments !! We all had a great time and I want to thank Harry , Andrew , Jo Ann & Richard for helping make our day such a success !! Thanks , gang !!! Eddie "C" ( the old non-pedal geezer ) |

Eddie; Congratulations on your successful Luau! My recently purchased Rickenbacker DW~16 D-8 is up and running well and being a Pa. resident of the past, right near there, I wish I could have participated in the event! Maybe sometime in the future will suit better! _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

Eddie's luau was fabulous.
Eddie and Harry play steel beautifully. It was inspiring to hear them do their thing. Harry's touch and tone was just great, and Eddie did incredible Jerry Byrd "wah-wahs" on "Wabash Blues." Both Eddie and Harry are excellent, veteran musicians with lots to offer. Forumites, if you have the opportunity, get together with these gentlemen.
See if you can get Eddie to talk about his gigging with bluegrass legends the Lily Brothers. Or about the string-pulling mechanism made for him in 1954 by Shot Jackson.
Thank you for the invitation, delightful music and friendship, Eddie. |
