Well, Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones playing country; that's got to be a first.
With all the great Steel players in the UK, it seems like they could have got someone else to do the job right and it would have at least made the song sound right.
As the famous words of wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin would say, "and that's all I got to say bout' that!"

Well....wow.... I really don't know if I think it's great that the Rolling Stones would do this song and Ronnie Wood try to play the steel, or ROTFLMAO. Maybe both.

How 'bout that line in the description, "Its great hearing Ronnie on pedal steel." Yeah, great! LOL

Whatever one thinks of the Stones doing, or attempting to do, country, there's nothing really "that's got to be a first" about it - they recorded some country sounding stuff decades ago on albums like Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet.

Ron Wood has been playing pedal steel for a long time. He played steel on (Girl With the)"Far Away Eyes" back in 1978. When I first heard that song I thought it was a parody of country music! I thought it was comedy. Same with the one posted here... but no, these guys are serious! They are playing "country music" as good as they can!

I heard yesterday that Jagger is currently worth $400 Million! I'll bet Ron Wood has a few bucks too. More power to 'em.

Just shows ys all that it pays to be versatile. Think of the extra money Ron made by playing the steel instead of subbing it out.

I like the Stones also and did a few of their songs in the 80's when I had a GB band.
I wonder if he tuned that P/P up before he played.
That's about as bad as the Garcia clip that's been on the Forum.

Hey, something odd about the lyrics just hit me: when Waylon wrote "makes no difference who's in Austin", was he writing about Austin's music scene or the governor?

I think that this one-off performance was just for having a bit of fun. They only did it the one time in Texas. Probably just ran through it once or twice at soundcheck before the show.

Ron looked as nervous playing steel as I would be. It's funny - those guys always look so casual and relaxed on stage. Suddenly Ron Wood's hands are shaking and he's sweating bullets.

Incredible! It's the only word that discribes it! People that no one would give a plug nickel to hear, hacking on a guy that made enough coin playing music to buy the state they live in.

Looks to me like they were having fun. And to be honest, I for one enjoyed it.

Perhaps one might wait till they themselves play that song to 80,000 ticket buyers before stoning another for missing a note or two.
