Ron Kirby, some Violin Effects on "Amazing Grace"

Post by Ron Kirby »

Here's a song I recorded on one of my CD's
"Amazing Grace". Utilizing a Boss Tone for a violin effect.

A very Special thanks to my friend Mr. Bobbe Seymour for producing the tracks. And letting me overdub on them.

Thanks to all for watching.

Ron, your playing is always a delight to hear. And also, a great big thanks for the information on Bobbe Seymour's quest for the Hall of Fame. I think it provided information to the steel guitar community a lot of folks did not know about Bobbe. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
Any news on the brothers Kirby twin steel cd yet.

Thanks Ron, Tell Karen I said Howdy!

Hi Wally! I too hope Bobbe makes in the HOF soon! I was with my brother in Texas last week. We got to play steel some. Our Dad had a stroke so we rushed him to the Hospital. He got to come home last night. Thank God...
Thanks for the compliments Wally and Ron. You guys take care and have a great day!! Ron

:D

Ron : A fine job you always do; I enjoyed your version of " Amazing Grace ", with Bobbe's help on the recording. I used to use one of those gadgets when I performed in Churchs several years ago. First heard them on stage at the "OPRY " back in the 70's.I especially love the song which you wrote for your daughter, Joelie; " A Song For Joelie ". But I couldn't get it to come up on my Puter, this time. A blank page is all that came up. But I've heard you play it at another time and it's out-standing, my friend. I, too, am keeping my fingers crossed for Bobbe.. Thanks for sharing your tunes with us..Bernie..

General Question

Post by Danny Sherbon »

Ron,
Very nice job on all of the tunes.

I've watched the Demos of the Bosstone and to be honest I was not impressed enough to buy one. But, your use of it made me give the unit another thought. I thought it was a reasonable alternative to the fiddle. Bobbe has his effects units (reverb and delay) open all the way and for me made it very muddy.

Can you give me some idea how you used your effects (reverb, delay, how much Bosstone).

Thanks in advance
Dan

Thanks, Ron, Bernie and Rick.

Hi Danny, To answer your question...

My Bosstone is an old one. I bought it several years ago. It broke and stayed broke untill recently repaired. I dont think is works as good as a new one. Normally I use more reverb and ect. but did not on this song. I think Bobbe sells the new good ones. He also has some great youtube clips on utilizing this effect. Amounts of reverb are different on all amps. I have three Nashville 400's and have to ajust them differently. Just call Bobbe he will go over this with you on over phone on your amp settings. Thanks Ron

CLIP Amp Settings.. Reverb 5,, delay 2,, add a touchmore bass than normal.
Bosstone Settings. Attack on 10 or full on. Volume, the same amount as your guitar or amp.

Hey Brother!

Hey there little brother. I am glad to see you have a lot of your songs in one place now. That's much better than having to jump around and find them. That Boss Tone effect brings back a lot of old memories. That was a hot thing back in the early 70s. Sounds great! It was nice having you in Texas again. It seemed you enjoyed playing my Zum. It's a nice playing guitar.
