It was originally a stand up instrument, with a tiltable body (so the audience could see the hands). Hip levers and some pedals.

It was made with the standard Sierra hardware for the time.

As I understand it, a chap in a Canadian rock band had one.

As I remember these had body levers and no pedals, for stand-up use, is that right? If you haven't actually seen it maybe make sure the 3 pedals are floor or body levers. Looked like it would be fun for a non-traditional approach. I always wondered if they sold any...

Don Christianson (former owner of Sierra) told me he received an incredible amount of phone calls (from guitar players) about the Rockslide, based on his ad that ran in Guitar Player mag in the late 70's.
He told me he didn't sell that many though, because it was finacially out of most guitar players committment range.

It is a Sierra Crown Series steel.
I have seen at least two that were turned into S8 E9 3x4 pedal steels.

Like all Sierra Crown Series steels, they are extremely stable (as in the body just does not move or sway when you play), The pedals and levers move very smoothly, and the stops are rock solid.
A Pro Model for sure, that is likely well in the student model price range.

I think even Robert Randolph would find this model to be super stable, and he wears out steels like no one else.

fwiw, I would check out what the current config is, and check with Tom Baker at Sierra to see if any parts you may need are available.

Neat instrument. I was with Sierra when we built that steel and personally delivered it to that Rock group from Canada. It was an eight string steel, tuned like the standard guitar with two extra length "hip levers" that swivled out so the stand up player could "rock" side to side for the changes. And like Ed mentioned, the steel was designed to be tilted so the audience could see the action. Glad to see the interest here. Contact Tom Baker for additional info.
