Buddy Emmons/ Mr. Steel Guitar

Dick; My goodness, you're just a young wipper-snapper; but a good one..In 1952, I turned 17 years old in Jan; joined the U.S. Navy in Feb.; on a minority enlistment. Went aboard my first ship that fall; and a sister bought me my first " LAP " steel. It was Buddy's talent which enticed me into becoming a steel guitarist. I remember seeing Buddy at a Ernie Tubb Personal appearance, here at a town hall show. You all know, he looked very tall in those early years. I recall seeing him spread his legs and do a leap right over his Pedal steel, never touching it. Bent, do you think maybe he was also an Acrobatic Steel Picker? Did you guys notice that out-standish Buddy Emmons smile on the video.. Bernie

So many players have that look on their face like they got a hold of a bad barrito. Buddy always looks like he's having a great time. He probably is. John

John, you're right, Buddy always seems to be enjoying himself, no matter where he's playing. I'm one of those steel pickers whom looks very serious when playing. My wife would tell folks that one could set a bomb off under me and I'd keep right on picking. Will catch you later, John, when I get back after the holiday, O.K? Bernie..

Yes, Bernie, I believe Buddy has a bit of acrobat in him, although I think it is sorta concentrated in his hands and fingers
John, I liked your comparison to a bad burrito hehe
Wasn't it Buddy who said: Don't slouch. Sit up straight when your'e playing, that way it will look like you're having a good time. I catch myself once in a while, and straighten up the old back. Yep, it works.
