Review of the Intense Mod for Nashville 400

Post by Jerry Heath »

I can't believe the difference that this modification has made to my NV400. If you have an old Nashville, you owe it to yourself to get this mod done. There are 3 main areas that are improved in this amp as a result. First the standard Peavey tone modification is done, this is a great modification in it's self, but Ken has made it even better with the selection of some high quality capacitors. The second area is the implementation of the Metzger Reverb modification. I didn't know that a Peavey could have such a rich reverb. Last, is the addition of the Burr Brown IC's, these have cleaned up the pre amp of this unit. Along with these modifications, the filter caps are also replaced. This combination has brought this amp to a level that rivals my just modified '70's Session 400. I can achieve clear lows and crisp highs without the muddled mids. I wasn't really expecting it to sound as good if not better than my Session. Hats to Ken Fox! :D

Review of the Intense Mod for Nashville 400

Jerry,
I could not agree more. Ken sent me his list of parts included in the Intense Mod, and I did the changeout of parts myself. The difference is phenomenal - clear, crisp highs, milky smooth blend of mids, and tight, punchy bass. The reverb sings. If anyone has an NV400 without the mod, I am certain that you will be pleasantly surprised to hear what Ken can do for your sound. In my opinion it is a necessity because I was on the verge of selling the amp prior to installing the Intense Mod. Not now.

Many thanks, Ken!

Thanks to all who have tried the mod or had me install it! I have a list of testimonials from customer that is 4 pages long now!

Here is my latest one:

I was going to write you today Ken....WOW!...I got it yesterday and I took
it to the gig last night. I was playing guitar so I loaned it to Dick Wood
our steel player. Dick plays a Williams 400 8+8...His jaw dropped. His
guitar (your modded amp) sounded incredibly good. We started talking
afterwards about the NV400 and the Vegas400 that I have sitting in my other
room. They will both wind up in your hands very shortly to be FOXED!...Great
great tone...you can quote me!>..im going to post a plug for you on the
Forum my friend.....Mickey Adams

I attest to the validity of that Email!....Ken I spent 5 hours practicing last night, and am back at it this morning. I just cant get over the difference in this amp. I posted a June message to my YouTube subscribers last night, and mentioned your mod there as well. I hope you get a few hits from that as well..Mickey Adams

Thanks, Mickey. I have so much fun listening the before and after when I do these amps. We have done right at 100 or so now and still going strong.

The Nashville 400 and Vegas 400 are the toughest and best built of any steel amps I have ever worked on. I just have not seen a better built solid state amp yet!!

I am a fan of the Session 400, Session 500 and LTD400 amps as well but I still feel a modded Nashville or Vegas is a better design even than those amps. Just my opinion, for what is its worth.
