The Steeler is MR. BILL JOHNSON. :)

On version number one his Emmons psg sounds very thin and tinny!:eek: :)

Alan, great post.... I've mentioned that song a number of times on this forum and enjoying hearing it, always.
It took me a lot of years to find out who the steeler was. I finally got the answer from Russ Hicks. I think he know everything.

Those are great videos. Some of the best pickin' I've heard on YouTube in a long while. It would be really nice to hear music like that on so-called "Country Radio" these days. I like both versions. Marty Robbins is great, one of the best singing voices ever in country music.

This sound is most likely the sound that originally drew me to the PSG in the first place.

Wasn't Bill one of the crop of Nashville steelers somewhat bred to 'play like Jerry Byrd'?
Not knocking him/it, as you'd have to be rather good to be in that group, just curious, and I've not seen him play before.
