Great stuff. Sorta sounds as if he was playing with the 'real' Tonight Show Band with Severinson - which would have made so much sense if you think about it. Great, big, swinging arrangements, fantastic steel playing.

I have to agree John, Curly was one of the best. There's only been a few in his class. Larry

I thought that someone was going to put out Curly's recordings in CD format. Anyone know what happened?

Back around '75 or '76, I was listening to some clear channel station on the radio at midnight one night, and the DJ played Curley's "Gentle On My Mind" for a bumper, and I sat straight up in bed, I had never heard such steel playing. I had been trying to play for a couple of years, and had no idea such music could come out of a steel guitar. The song wasn't introduced, so I had no idea who it was, but it wasn't too long after that, Tom Bradshaw offered the "Counterpoint" record through his steel guitar record club. I saw that song was on it, so I grabbed it. That is still one of the best steel albums ever recorded IMHO.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro.

Back in 1969, a friend turned me on to Curly's first album, "BIG HITS ON BIG STEEL". Later I was quite surprised to find out that he had recorded this album using a Fender 2000 PSG. :whoa:

I purchased that from Mike way back. It would be great if the rest of his recordings were put on CD format.

I hooked my turntable into my computer with an interface mixer and installed an MP3 recording software and then just recorded record albums and tapes and then just burn them onto a CD...of course for my personal use only. Here is a link to where you can purchase a great recorder from DAK. http://www.dak.com/shop/details.cfm?item=131
