Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Those words were spoken by someone who's opinion really does mean something. Anybody can stump their toe and get in a bind. Doesnt mean the person is no good. My word that happens to all of us. We're just not perfect no matter how badly we may want to be. I have no dog in this hunt period but I do think alot of Mr. Reece Anderson. I recently fell in love with an MSA U12 and I will not have one reservation about buying a new U12 millineum when the time is right. I havent had the pleasure to meet Tom yet but when I do I'll give him the same measure of consideration that I'm giving Reece. Aint nothing sadder than old friends parting ways and I hope for better days ahead for both of these guys. You know they did finally stop beating Rodney King. Thats not to say he might not need another whooping at a later date, but theres no need in whooping this subject any longer. Seems to me to have been resolved and thats cool!

I would expect that when MSA closed the doors, mostly as I understand because a music instrument and amp company just up and quit acepting shipped merchandise, and said don't send anymore steels or parts they had ordered, Reece was forced to file for bankrupcy.
When that happens the court decides who gets any moneys thats left, NOT REECE. That is the same reason Ron Jr. is not responsible for orders placed to the preveious Emmons company.
I would also expect that it is...as a good faith gesture, that these people will recieve full reimbursement. Because if he filed for bankrupcy he is not resposible for them.
And Seymore, you tell everyone in a very slick round about way, beware of the new MSA. Thats what I read between the lines in your post.
All this is speculation...but I feel in my heart that this is close to what happened.
Bob.

I'm no lawyer, I've never played one on TV, and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, the term I read describing the Emmons situation was "reincorporation". As far as I know that does not relieve them of any libilities of the previous corporation, any more than it relieves them of the assets. You have to take both with the balance sheet.
Besides, there's no way lawyers would allow two cases to be the same.

to bob carlson:
maurice/msa did not file for bankruptcy or this would have been a lot cleaner. msa's creditors were swept under the rug, there was no official process followed and msa just kind of shut down. i imagine that maurice and others had lots of personal assets securing msa debts, and might possibly have risked those assets if they had actually filed for bankruptcy. i have no idea.
to stephen o'brien:
thank you for confirming that there was a lawsuit... the only possible explanation for tom making a public statement reversing a position he has held strongly for almost two decades. that is NOT to say that he didn't go over the top, or wasn't sincere in his apology to maurice for going over the top... but it IS to say that anybody who reads that letter and sincerely believes that tom no longer believes (the old) msa screwed members of our community is naive. did tom go too far? yup. is he a big part of the reason msa is finally dealing with this issue? yup.
to everybody else: it has taken almost 20 years for this to come about. tom and maurice were close and talked about it then, and are still talking about it (if no longer close). it is a shame that msa spent money suing tom... money that could have reimbursed the victims. it is a shame that it all took this long.
on the other hand, it is a BLESSING that the victims of the old msa should start receiving their long overdue reimbursements in october. i am praying that it comes true.
kudos to the new msa for doing the right thing, to tom for doing the right thing, and to both camps for de-escalating this situation and getting back to the business that REALLY interests us... playing steel!

Stephen and smike,
Recieved an e mail from a close fried of Reece. He did not file for bankrupcy. Why, I do not understand. If you look at the end of my post I said....this is speculation!! And thank you both for responding in a polite way. I see the person through this computer as being just like the way they talk....GENTLEMEN!!
I wish I could say more about why Tom had to do and say what he did, but I was told the info I recieved was between him and I.
BUT, I feel sure someone will get the records and everyone will know why.
I don't feel Reece would turn down the hall of fame. He is much to great of a gentleman for that. And once the complete story is heard....he will be invited with open arms.
Bob.

I've followed this for a number of years.
I happen to know one of the people who was told by Jerry Anderson "The guitar is sitting right here. Just send the money." He did and he never got a guitar.
I'm not assigning blame to anyone. I just think that the honorable thing to do would be to take those few people who felt they got screwed by MSA and make restitution.
That is all Tom ever asked. Sure Tom goes goes a bit over the top-- it's part of HIM. But in his heart he is the most honest and starigtforward and trusting person I have ever dealt with.
Did the Steel Guitar community ever support him? Hardly.
Many years ago he started Steel Guitar Magazine. He sent Issue number one to all the people he had on his mailing list. He said, "here it is. You want 3 more for the year, send me $5.00. A bunch of people took him up on it. So he sent a card to the others who didn't and said "How about it?" And he got another bunch. But he was left with about 10,000 names of folks who GOT a free issue and never replied. He said to me, "I KNOW who they are. I KNOW they are interested in steel guitar." He was baffled.
And the great magazine folded because of the lack of support within the community. And Tom did it all out of his own pocket.
So we have the current situation. Tom tried, on behalf of the steel guitar community to get restitutions to a few who he felt deserved it.
We are a small community. WE generally know what's in everyone elses's garbage.
My personal opinion (Ok-- here it comes...) is that if Maurice had the integrity he claims to have, this whole thing would have gone away long ago.
It need not have gotten to this point.
It is a sad situation all around.
I only hope that those few who Tom was battling for get the restitution they deserve.

I know from a series of emails exchanged w/Mr. Anderson a couple weeks ago that he is NOT always a gentle, kind and longsuffering person. I've got HIS number!...if Maurice had the integrity he claims to have...
By the same token, I exchanged a few emails w/Tom Bradshaw on an unrelated subject and he showed himself to be as he seems in his public writings; straight forward, opinionated, informed, and POLITE!
Definite difference!
As I posted earlier, the demeanor in his redaction seems forced and dictated.
I'm not surprised...

Reece Anderson, his brother Jerry and the Bennett family are the finest, most upstanding, straight forward, caring human beings I have ever met, and I've known them for over 30 years. They have always been honest and open with me about their business lives as well as personal lives, just as they have been with anyone else that cares to know.I believe in them enough to have ordered a new MSA Millenium.
That wraps it up.

I see nothing at all unusual about a player wanting more than one brand of instrument.
I was a pro 6-stringer and still have a collection of many various guitars.
If I was a pro-steeler I'm sure I'd have have a collection of various steels, (if I could afford it).
I always suspect an "endorsement deal" when a player will not try/buy other instruments.

It's no secret that having your product placed on the Opry would be a huge benefit to any steel guitar builder. It's also reasonable to speculate that it's no easy task selling a $6,000 steel guitar. If I were just bringing a new instrument to market, I would be sorely tempted to "prime the pump" by any means possible.

Obviously I must have done something to offend you Mr. Carlson, If I did, I'm sorry. True colors? I hope I've shown them, I believe in: honesty, integrity, good ethics, and the golden rule. And I believe that Tommy White is about the best steel player in the world. Is there something here that offends you? Do you not believe in these things? We'll get back to true colors in the near future if you wish.
Tom Bradshaw? Maurice A.? I've known them both for 40 years. I like them both. I really like everyone. I'm having a little trouble with you though but I think it may work out also.
Please have a nice day Bob.

Keep trying Bob, my name isn't that hard to spell, kinda' like yours , in a way.
