Replacing my Maverick's single coil pickup with a hum-cancelling design?
Will I be losing a unique tone along with the hum?

I think I asked a similar question a while back. The only reply I got was why do you want to change it. I use a maverick as a lap steel. You know I like the pickup sound better than any of my other lap steels except for maybe my Sierra with the True Tone, The pickup does have some hum but it is not too bad. It has the same sound as the pickup in my Shobud Professional.

Yeah it's the hum that's the issue for me.
It's a funny thing because the hum from my Telecasters doesn't worry me at all but with the Steel the hum during quieter passages I find annoying.
Still, as I've learned with guitar sometimes it's a tradeoff. I've tried many humbucking single-coil sized replacements in Fender guitars and to me none of them have quite had "the" sound.
