A steel jam on the Central Coast?
I was asked today to see about having a steel jam on the beautiful Central Coast. We're half-way between SF and LA in a quaint lovely town with charm and sea breezes. Thought I would put some feelers out there to see if any interest, thank, Gary.

I'd be up for it. Grew up in Morro Bay. My parents still live there and my brother's in SLO. Played in the infamous Pozo River Bottom Band before I came down to the big city. Is there much happening in country these days in SLO county? How many pedal steelers are in the area now? My brother actually used to play pedal steel for a couple groups back in the 70's and 80's there.

I lived in Cambria from '88 to 98, and played steel in the Moonstone Cowboys, along with many duos and trios. I remember the Pozo River Bottom Band. I'm in LA now, but I go to Cambria a lot, so I could probably make it - when...? As far as other steel players in the area, there's John Clark, who now lives in Atascadero, and the great Milt Myers, in Arroyo Grande.
[This message was edited by Rich Weiss on 23 August 2002 at 07:59 PM.]

Sounds like it could fly. Will work on some logistics and see if we can stir some more interested parties, but it looks good right now and will keep you posted, thanks again, guys. Sounds like we could have wonderful time and meet some new friends and enjoy the scenery at the same time. Jim Baron, email me. I wrote you yesterday and it came back, thanks, G.

That sounds like fun. If it's in November, I think the Mullen and I can make it. I have family in So. CA. Two daughters and some grandchildren. I'd love to meet some of the guys and hear them play.
I lived in So CA for about five or six years back in the 80's. I played with a band called Champagne Country. We played all over Central and Northern CA, as well as SoCA
Let me know .. K?

My blues band (Deja Blues)will be playing at Happy Jacks in Morro Bay on Oct 4th & 5th. If any of you are in the area, come by and say hello & sit in. Bring a lap steel or just play my shortscale 8 string Excel frypan. It's tuned like Ricky Davis's E13. Unfortunately I don't think there's enough room on the stage for a pedal steel with my Hammond B3 up there.
