I'd love to get to Saluda but if Wayne Smith is going to be there I'm not sure the crowd could handle two ugly Jersey guys. Maybe next time.

Rick, if you only knew how much trouble it is to keep the moron from doing stupid stuff...
You and I are bluegrassers. Rest his soul, but think Jimmy Martin. Jimmy Martin, DRUNK. OK, you got it? Now, Jimmy Martin drunk, and somebody say,"Jimmy, smoke some of ths new stuff they call 'crack.'"
NOW you know what I mean????

It's going to be a fun weekend in Saluda. The show always runs smoothly, plus I enjoy meeting some old friends and making new ones. My favorite part of the show is the jam session on Saturday night. As always, I look forward to presenting my seminar on Saturday afternoon and getting to eat some seafood with Dean and Jack.

Y'all, PLEASE remember---proceeds from this show go the Shriners' Hospitals. Do any of you know a kid who's been treated at a Shriners' Hospital, all FREE? No joking, here. The work these hospitals do costs parents nothing---Thanks to the Shriners. Our musicians play free, the staff band is as good as you'll hear ANYWHERE, the food is good, and reasonably priced---I can't think of a single reason NOT to come. And remember, there's ALWAYS some surprises at Saluda!

Southern Steel Guitar Seminar-May 17 at the Saluda Shrine Club, Saluda, South Carolina. I will conduct an E9th Seminar from 1:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday, May 17. Please bring your steel guitar, some amplified headphones and a music stand. I plan to discuss ways of working up steel guitar arrangements from sheet music, although you really don’t have to be able to read music. Instead, I rely on chords and their positions, a unique way to develop your ears to hear melody to play a variety of songs. I will illustrate this skill with three songs and some exercises to help you develop your own techniques and styles. I also will discuss improving bar technique, working on timing, developing steel guitar smoothness, and using delays to create a more full sound (if time permits). I will also show you how I work up my arrangements for the PSGA Newsletter. I plan to gear the material to players of all levels. In addition, to help make the experience more productive, I will provide you not only with the music and steel guitar tablature, but also with two CDs that are filled with the material that we will discuss. Included on the CDs will be my audio instructions, the rhythm tracks and the steel guitar blended with the rhythm tracks. That way you can leisurely take notes, knowing that the material will be waiting for you to practice when you get home.
If you are going to attend the seminar please notify me in advance so there will be enough CDs and lesson material for all participants. For seminar information contact me through my Email at the Steel Guitar Forum. Seminar admission is $50, and $5 will be donated back to the club.

Hi Vern,
You could show a lot of players (younger and older) a thing or two about the steel guitar. A bump for a great show!

Hell or Highwater

Post by David Fields »

I want to make this one. I also hope to make that seminar that Chuck is putting on. Moron, or no moron, come hell or highwater. I am going to be like the US Postal service. They make it no matter what.

I have missed some good ones in the past. I hope to not make the mistake again.
Haven't heard anything yet about the hotdogs. What gives? Do I need to bring some?

Looks like fun!

Naw, David, you don't need to bring any hot dogs! Haven't you heard about bringing a sandwich to a picnic?
By the way, somebody PLEASE get word to Wayne that the moron got a FRETLESS bass?? I mean, it HAD frets, but he chewed 'em loose, and...
I don't wanna get into it. Some of y'all have dealt with the moron. I need say no more.

Stephen Jack and I were coming but the Jacksonville club is on the same day so we will support them this time, they would not change the date. Have a great time I know you will, Saluda has no Equil as to qaulity players and fellowship will miss you really bad.

Due to a lack of a place to stay over and other circumstances we are canceling this time

With the price of diesel, pulling the travel trailer from South Georgia is out of the question!

If we come at all it will be just for one day and we will be in a small car. We can not do any work if we come, as we would also be on the way the way to visit relatives in NC and Virginia.

Our old pouch is ailing and that may prevent the while trip to NC and Virginia as well. She is 13 and has a recurring tumor on the leg. It has been removed 4 times and now is almost around the elbow joint of her front leg.

Just have to wait and see how she is doing first!

Ken,

So sorry to hear about the dog. Best of luck with that. Most dogs are better people than most people.
