This says it all

As some know,Chris is currently the frontman in The Hacienda Bros but has had a solo career as well and plays frequently with Dave Alvin. Chris is a great musician and purveyor of Americana as well as a long time fixture in the L.A. music scene. Lets wish him well. |

Wow, that's sad. I was curious why they canceled all of their dates. Thanks for sharing that. |

This is just a terrible shock. The Hacienda Brothers are truly one of my favorite bands, and I've seen them live three times, as well as seeing Chris live with Dave Alvin.
I'll try to send what I can. _________________ Mark

Hopefully a close friend or relative can organize a fund raiser event and find a venue to host it. A concert with an all-star line up of past and present bandmates, etc and charge $25 or more for tickets.
I will help by sending a donation.

This is very sad news for sure. Last summer I played at a festival outside of Portland, OR. with The Hacienda Brothers and really had a great time hearing them and having a chance to meet and talk to them. Chris was a real straight up kind of a guy as well as a great singer. Hoping for the best for him. |

I think someone is putting a large benefit together in Austin. Sounds like we will play it if it happens. |

I think it would be a cool thing if we all put on local benefits wherever we live. I put a feeler email out today to some in the Portland, Oregon area to see what we could do. It really doesn't take much: get a place, organize some bands and donate the proceeds to the cause. If this happened in multiple locations around the country, we could raise money in no time...and Chris and his family would feel the love.
"In order to raise the necessary additional $60,000 a website has been set up by his family at http://www.helpgaff.com. Donation checks can also be written directly to the Chris Gaffney Recovery Fund, 403 43rd Street, Oakland CA 94609." |

those of you on myspace can add it to your top friends to help spread the word.
I was fortunate enough to get the call to play a couple of gigs on steel with Chris when he came east several years ago. Great singer, player, accordionist and songwriter. _________________ "I just came in here from force of habit... I don't intend to spend too much time in here."

He did pass away yesterday (April 17th). There will be a Portland-area memorial at Duff's Garage on Friday, May 2nd with the following bands:
Blue Moon Highway
The Buckles
Reina G. Collins and the Saloonatics
Wheatfield
The Rascos
Lisa & Her Kin
All proceeds to be sent to Julie Gaffney.
He'll be missed, but we're making this a celebration of the joy and happiness he brought to everyone through his life and music.
