Lap Steel on "Comcast On Demand"

Post by Michael Papenburg »

My band was recently taped for a Comcast On Demand "Battle of the Bands". There really wasn't a contest or anything, they just taped 2 songs for 8 different bands. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told that the cameraman completely focused on me for the song I play lap steel on. I suppose it helps to play an instrument you don't see every day :).

I'm in the SF bay area so I'm not sure if it's available in other places, but you can find it if you go to the "local" section of Comcast and look for "Battle of the bands". I play with the Brittany Shane band and the lap steel song is called "Pretty Sky".

I should warn you that the other bands that night were mostly hard rock/heavy metal (our band is rootsy/pop). If possible, I'll post the songs on YouTube once I get a copy.

There is a good chance that it is only available in the SF bay area. I was told that it is under "local" and then "battle of the bands". I don't even have cable TV so I'm not certain. I just thought that someone in my area may be able to check it out. Sorry if it isn't available in your area.

I don't even have Comcast myself but my Mom recorded it for me. I'll post it on YouTube when I get a copy. I just thought that there may be some people in my area with Comcast.

hey I just checked this out (I'm in Berkeley) and it is very cool. You're playing is superb but you know that already. You got a pretty good gig there playing with a strong band with good songs and the singer doesnt hurt to look at either. give me heads up if you guys are playing around the Berkeley area so I can come check you out.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't even seen it myself so I'm glad to hear that it turned out OK. The Brittany Shane band is playing a record release party at Cafe DuNord on Thursday, May 8th. We've been working hard so I think it should be a great show. I'll gladly keep you posted on other performances.
