After reading through the long thread on Emmons LeGrande III's, with the counter-force unit, I remember (at least I think I remember) that some of the Remington pedal steels had some sort of device that was supposed to counteract "cabinet drop". I think I remember seeing pictures of it in Steel Guitar World magazine way back when.

Does anybody else remember those, or was it just a fig newton of my imagination?

I had one. Herb called it a "turtle". It applied force against the changer axle to counteract flex. I messed around with it once and it seemed to improve the cabinet drop a bit.
