Yodeling

Ok, so this isn't really about steel music, but I am a fan of the Midwest Country show and I noticed that many times they have acts that feature yodeling. Is anyone a fan of yodeling? I have nothing really against it, but where in the nation is this still a popular form of music?

Wally, I played steel for one of the best yodelers in the world, Frank Ifield. I learned how to do harmonics with him , Frank liked me to play harmonics when he yodeled .

I love yodeling,my wife HATES it,Maybe it's because she's a Southern Calif native [Huntington Beach],When we were first married 21 years ago,I was playing something with yodeling in it,She yelled from the other room,WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.Can't teach that gal anything,but she's my little honey anyway.DYKBC.

Remember eons ago was in a club in San Bernardino,Miss Patsy Montana came in and set in with the band,She sang A Cowboys Sweetheart,Even tho she was getting up in age at the time,she nailed it.DYKBC.

Trudy Fair from Texas is a very good yodeler. Do any of you know of her? She cut a couple of cassettes with Tom Morrell. Need I say more?

Sean Reefer out of Texas does a lot of yodeling, and he nails it every time.

A lot depends on WHO is doing the yodeling. I would cringe if I heard most singers try to do it; I think it has to come naturally to you to even attempt it.

I always liked to hear good yodeling until I worked with a few. Listening to yodeling is one thing, backing one is something else altogether.

I played a gig years ago in SoCal with Judy Rose who just happened to be the daughter of Patsy Montana. Patsy came by and did "Cowboy's Sweetheart" which I believe she wrote. She was a pretty fair yodler.

I think that yodeling's really a lost art anymore as very seldom is it heard by any of the newer artists. The last one I heard doing any yodeling was Suzy Boguss who did a nice version of Cowboys's Sweetheart on one of her albums.

I used to work with a female bass player/singer in SoCal by the name of Cindy Carson who could do a yodeling tune as well as anyone out there and also was quite a looker in her younger days.

All in all, my favorite yodeler of all time would have to be the late great Elton Britt. I have a CD of his greatest hits and he had a set of pipes for sure. Do you remember "Chime Bells"?......JH in Va.
