Im looking for a pickup for my ACOUSTIC lap, its a real struggle to find a soundhole pickup whose pole pieces match the wider string spacing of my weiss copy (www.gosdenguitars.co.uk) How are you folks managing out there, my great seymour duncan M1 is perfect for my j45 but hopelessly out of line on the weiss Your comments very much appreciated. is there a pickup out there that fits,
sunrise etc all out of line ! |

Hi Kevin - I didn't have any problems with string balance when I used the Baggs M1 in my first Lazy River weiss. As you can see from the pic it doesn't match the string spacing, but the signal was balanced and strong (sounded very good too..).

I would recommend the Sunrise pickup.
I have one on my Superior Weissenborn copy and it works great. |

I suppose I should have known , basically there is nothing out there so we just 'make do' Kind of interesting that lap steel has a good selection of wide spaced mag pickups, but for acoustic lap there are none, how about it Jason, wallace, true tone, you have got yourselves to the moon but but a nice acoustic mag pickup eludes us, unless someone out there etc etc ! |

Does Mr. Gosden have any suggestions? He built the guitar, he should be able to suggest a pickup that would work with it. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Hi Brad thats a very good point, on the one hand he can provide me the string spacing I like for a weiss style instrument but on the other we are struggling to find a mag pick up thats fits the bill, hence my post on this forum to see if anyone could point us in the right direction, I also thought that perhaps any information we found might be of interest to other players face with a similar dilema, and Brad I do apologise for not pointing that out previously. |

I have no connection with the company but you can learn about the Sunrise pickup at:

Thanks Erv, I'm pretty sure (no info I believe on website) the sunrise comes with fixed polepiece spacing which unfortunately is unsuitable for my wider weiss spacing, but many thanks for trying to help |

Thanks Erv, I'll hang on just a bit and see if the 'holy grail' materialises, I just thought it would benefit some of us, if theres no product there, then yes sunrise/lr baggs M1 it will have to be |

Kevin -- I have one of these in my nut-extended acoustic, and it works pretty well. It's a Dean Markley ProMag Grand.

I may get something better sometime, but for now, it's working fine. Also, I'm not sure, but I believe it may be some kind of blade style underneath the wood exterior.
Anywone know? |

When I had mine I used the Rare Earth humbucking pickup; no polepieces. |
