I know this is an old song but Keith's version was the first I heard.
Who is the steel player, and what is the steel He is playing? Listen to the contrary movement just after He starts the solo,Absolutely knockout.

The pedabro was built by Paul Franklin Sr, and Paul Franklin Junior was the first to play one. Carson's pedabro is a combination standard pedabro neck and steel neck with E9th tuning.

WHEW! Front to back it looks as though it's deeper than a Fender 2000.???
Does anyone know the weight of this guitar?

The E-9th neck sounds very good. :)

My steel is on the work bench and I can't get at it to figure this out......

Is that first lick of the solo done by starting on a 2nd and 5th-string (lower/raise) unison, then raising the 2nd a whole tone and a half while dropping the 5th string back a whole tone? Am I even close?

Thats a 2nd str and 5th str unison as you said then releasing the 2nd str lever and 5th str pedal so the origional "5th" note splits and goes both up 1 step to the "6th" and down 1 step to the "4th". The same thing is done memorably by, I assume, John Hughey in the Conway Twitty "Hello darlin', Nice to see you" song, sorry I dont know the title, as it goes up to the II chord during the verse (at least in the version I saw on t.v.). In J.H.'s solo, it starts on the "1" note of the scale then moves both up to the "2nd" and down to the dom7th together.

Hey Bent,

No, a bushing came loose on the LKL assembly and I lost it at a gig somewhere. I need to pick up a replacement bushing today and re-fasten the lever. I had to take off the A pedal cross shaft to access the lever assembly, hence the steel being out of commission for a day or so.

David Jackon was on the phone to me right away with the right size bushing and how to remove the cross shaft, etc. I am constantly amazed at the attention Jackson pays to its customers. David would not let me go until he was sure I knew exactly how to fix this problem.

I'm rough on levers. :)

Billy Murdoch complimenting

Post by Bill Mayville »

Mr Murdoch. Hi Billy. You always have something to say nice about someone else's playing ability.
You are A very good player. You also have a tone to die for.I think some-day soon you should put a
steel demo on the forum. We would (most players) love to hear your ability as you are progressing .
By the way.The fellow you are wanting us to hear (steel player) is very good. The singer will put anyone over 30 to sleep. With the setup he has to use
to sing through, would even make me a singer ..Even You.Compliments are great.Jack Francis does the same thing.Always says how great such and such is. How about Jack.Has been a great musician for the 26 years
I have known him.Lets get him to sing and play for us.
By the way Bill.I heard you were going to do some playing in Dallas this year. Now I think that is great.
Have to go. Tractor is calling.
