Here's another fun tune I did today using Jeff Newman's Honky Tonk Heros.

There's even a slight clam or two included.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah, the site I use has a Daily limit on number of plays so if it doesn't play try the next day and it should work.

Hi Dick...That is a beautiful job on that song. I lived up in Azle, Tx back in 1990...not too far from you there in Springtown...anyway your Steel work sounds really fantastic. Take care...Brian

Hey Neighbor,

Or I guess ex-neighbor I should say.

I bet it's a lot warmer there than it is here.

I like occasionally getting out the old Newman tracks and messin around. One of these days I plan on trying youtube but I don't have the equipment to post it yet.

Thanks so much for the compliment.

Hi Dick,
I thought that was brilliant! This was a new version for me, as I learned that one from the Steelin Feelin album...This one gave the player a longer break to play.

That lick you played..you know where is sounds like you are totally losing it and then it resolves into a thing of beauty....would it be possible to tab that one out?
I have forgotten that one...

David and Bent

I appreciate your kind words very much.

Bent,I will get back to you but that run is basically a descending scale that starts two frets above the pedals down position for where your I chord would be.

I'll get back to you when I can tab it out.

Dick, Sure, whenever you have the time...In the meantime I will see what I can come up with after you gave me that clue.
I think that is an absolutely baaad run!

Ricky,

I would enjoy meeting you and getting together sometime so just say when and where.

Just curious if you have taken any lessons from Steve Lamb at Lamb Music. That's who I learned from back in the early 80's.

:whoa: :whoa: Wow, Dick, you really do a fantastic job on this tune, and I would almost bet money that any thing you do on pedal steel is great. Especially if Jeff's material is involved. I remember the vocalist very well from one of my visits to a Jeff Newman Seminar in Boston several years ago. He was my mentor and Idol when it came to Steel Guitar. I love the tone of your guitar. Hurry up and get some of your great talent on U-Tube for all we forumites to enjoy.. Thanks a million..Bernie  :whoa: :) :D

Thanks so much Bernie. I am having fun with Jeff material and I do intended on getting some live as well as home stuff on Youtube when I get the things needed to get on there.

I really enjoy watching all the different players who post on there because it's a nice way of learning new licks and ideas.

Thanks again

Dick, a real fine job. That's what I like to hear. Originality, someone not afraid to play up the neck, and your intonation was superb.

Darn, guess there isn't anything wrong with my hearing after all, as I could have been led to believe from a different thread.:D :D :D :D

Wade, try again, because it's sure worth a listen or two or three. Definitely no copied material there at all. Simply original, and done with style. What I call a real class performance.

Even made the small "what did you call it?" Sound good as well...

PS: Dick, what equipment are you using for your recording? Your tone was super as well.

Wade,

It ain't nothing special as I just turned on the recorder and started playing along.I even left two or three bloopers in as I got surprised at one point and tried to end it but the band wasn't done yet..LOL

Don,

I have been following the thread you mentioned so I know where you're coming from. I stayed out of it cuz it seemed to be a lost cause.

The equipment is a Yamaha AW4416 16 channel hard disk recorder. I play a Williams D10 direct to the board through a Ernie Ball pot pedal.

Thanks so much for your compliments.

Gary,

First off, thank you and I believe that is Bob Browning who Jeff Newman used on various tunes.

It's funny that I hadn't heard that tune in a long time then I did it and today driving home from work I heard it on the radio.

Dick's Rendition Of " Pass Me By "

Post by Bernie Gonyea »

:D
Dick: I was trying to remember Bob Browning's name; met him at one of Jeff's seminars several years ago; a fantastic singer; blended so well with Jeff's playing and all the other members of his BACK-UP band. Jeff had a young man setting up for him at this one seminar; he mentioned that the LAD had been with him just one year; jeff had two steels set up, on stage. He had been taking Jeff's lessons along with the other attendees, at the seminars.
Jeff wanted everyone to hear what a young lad could accomplish in one year; the two of them sat down at their steels and played " Faded Love" together; BEAUTIFULLY done; we couldn't believe how great the young lad sounded.. Did you attend one of Jeff's steel guitar school sessions there in Nashville, Dick? You might possibly be the young man I'm talking of? Anyway, you are the MAN..Bernie  :D

Bernie,

Nope, weren't me although I would have liked to have attended one of Jeff's classes but I honestly didn't know about them back then.

I pretty much have learned what I know from listening to tapes records and on the bandstand.
