I moved to Nashville in 1967 and have always looked as close to home as possible when in the market for a new PSG. This makes it easier to keep tabs on the progress of the new project and possibly saves shipping-charges when the instrument is finished. I've owned many new Sho-Buds, from right downtown and three Franklins from just 11-mi. away in Madison and I now have my 2nd. DERBY PSG, which is manufactured in Brooks, Ky. which is still within a reasonable travel distance from Nashville. A round-trip for me is 317-mi, which is still within reason. There are many companies which all build fine guitars and it kinda makes good sense to buy new from a close by mfgr. Derby is as good as any PSG that I've ever owned. _ _ _ Just last week, I decided that I would like to make a slight change to my Derby copedent and made arrangements with Charles Stepp to have the changes made at his facility in Brooks, Ky. I left home at 4:30 am C.S.T. on Wed. and traveled directly North 155-mi on Iā65 to Exit 121 (Brooks Road). I arrived in time to stop for breakfast and still arrive at the Derby facility by 9:30 E.S.T. I met Charles there and by 11:15, I was ready to head for home again. I was back home in Nashville by 2 pm C.S.T. and I just want to take this opportunity to mention that if you're looking for a fine PSG plus timely, friendly service; you just can't beat the Derby Steel and Charles Stepp and Associates. I probably could have done the work myself, but; I figured no one is more capable of doing the best job than the Original Builder can do and being within traveling distance makes it all the more practical and pleasant! Thanks a bunch Charles, for building a fine PSG!

I have a Derby SD 10 , anytime I've needed a part or information Charley and Margit have came through. Over the past year I have gotten to know them very well and consider them as friend's. The Derby company is tops in my book. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

I currently own two Derby Steel's and had one prior to these.I couldn't say enough about Charlie and Margit.Absolutely two of the finest people I have ever had the priviledge of calling my friends.I can't seem to find the time to make it up to their place in Brooke's,although I'd love to go up and visit sometime. There's only a handful of guitar builders that actually have their own machine shop and make all of their parts in house, and Derby is one of them. They also build their own cabinets and produce some very beautiful wood body guitars. These guitars stay in tune, and have great tone and sustain.I have never had one single problem with my Derby Steel's. _________________ Show Pro #26 & #83,BJS bars,Stereo Steel,Tommy Huff cabs loaded with JBL D130's, Wampler pedals,NV112,NV400, Steelers Choice Seats |

I have been playing steel for 50 plus years and the Derby D10 I have is by far the best sounding steel I have ever owned. It stays in tune and has GREAT tone and sustain. |

I used my Derby guitar for my entire stint at Disneyworld (one year), and the whole time I toured with Nashville acts (five years) many years ago. I have a lot of guitars, and I like them all. It's no secret that I love my hybrids and PP. I love my new-used SD-10 Derby too. I like its aggressive Push-pull-like snap and tone. I have found my Derby guitars to be utterly reliable over the very long and hard haul. Charlie and Margit are the salt of the Earth. They have always been kind and supportive of me and my endeavors. They always provided a warm and home-like atmosphere to the lonely road dog away from home. Hats off to Derby, and the Stepp family. |

I second that. I have visited Charlie at the shop and felt welcome and completely at home. Charlie let me sit down and play his own personal Derby as well as show me some of the unique features he incorporates into his guitars. I now own a Derby D10 10x9 owned previously by Terry Crisp and it's a great guitar. Stays in tune, plays easily, sounds great. You can't go wrong with a Derby and Charlie.

Wayne |
