I'm looking for a half-decent acoustic under a grand that will replace my '62 Southern Jumbo (it has to be retired from the bars). While I want something I don't have to worry about, I don't wanna play a piece of crap either. I've been playing vintage Gibsons for years and hate to change to something inferior, yet I have to put this thing away before a drunk falls into it and destroys it.

A local music store let me take home a Blueridge BR-70 for a few days, to test drive it around the house. (It doesn't yet have a pickup, so I can't try it at a gig). To say it has great tone is an understatement. This dreadnought kills 90% of the new Martins I've played in the last 4-5 years...and some of the Gibsons as well. The clarity on the top end, the volume on the bass end, and the sheer resonance and sustain are usually unheard of in such a price range. I have never been so impressed with an off-the-rack acoustic guitar. It's priced at $650 bucks in the USA. Here's what it looks like:

I have tried a lot of Blueridge acoustics, but none has jumped out at me. I mean they were okay, but not outstanding like this one. There always seemed to be something missing in the tone department. But this model is fabulous. In my opinion, it makes the price of new Gibsons and Martins seem completely ridiculous. I think I'll buy it.

I haven't tried a BR-70, but I have a BR-160 and I love it. Sounds like you've made a good choice.

I have one of those, excellent!
Reminds me of a HD-41 Martin at a fraction of the price. Very Happy

The one presently on Ebay states, "Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, and peghead overlay."
I thought there was an embargo on Brazilian Rosewood ..... Shocked

One site specified that it's select Brazilian rosewood "laminate". Most descriptions of the Blueridges omit the "laminate" part of the equation.
