Ashokan Farewell
I have been playing around with the Ashokan Farewell lately. Man that is a pretty song on a steel. Does anyone have a copy of a professional playing it?

Hi Joe,
Yes, it is a beautiful and haunting melody at the same time. When you know from where it was featured on the Ken Burns Civil War documentary for PBS. Which by the way was the most viewed ever of all the PBS series nationwide. I have never been more captivated by or since for a series such as his. I think the music played a big role in his documentary.
Now to answer to your question someone else already beat me to the punchline, but Lloyd Green has no doubt the best I ever heard the song on steel guitar. As mentioned it is on his "Revisited CD" of about 4 years ago. Lloyd told me that CD was his favorite of all he's ever recorded and he would'nt have changed one note different on it. It is a true steel Master at work. My favorite on his CD is the song your refer to.
Hope this helps and GOD bless!
