Yes, I meant that P3+P4 in the Sacred Steel tuning give you the G major notes B D (E) G B D. It's a common feature of most SS E7 copedents that Dan doesn't use.

I checked out your site for The Linemen, nice......are you using a standard E9th?
You guys are really helpful. I hope I don't wear out my welcome before I even have my guitar!!! I'm sure I'll be referring here a lot when I finally have my guitar in hand.

Its a pretty standard E9, except for pedal 1 G#-G on 3 and 6 and 2nd string to D, which gives me something like the Em/G major chord position that Dan and b0b are getting with pedals 3 and 4. I use pedal 1 constantly for both single note and chordal runs.
I think b0b's list of pro and cons for E9 vs SS are dead on, and the width of intervals on the low strings of SS didn't work for me, since I use my flavor of 4+5 E9 as a "universal" and need close intervals available on 10,9,8 to get extended chords for C6 type stuff. The lower range would be nice, but I would personally go with a 12 string E9 over SS to get it.
Whether to go SS or E9 on the Jackson depends on the music you want to do, but staying with the E9 or Dan's hybrid to start makes sense to me. If you are a complete beginner, you will have plenty to do on right hand technique before touching a pedal/lever and setting the bar on the strings. See Joe Wright for good right hand instruction.

Ted Beard Tuning?

Does anyone know Ted Beards copedant? The good folks at Jackson guitar have told me they would consult him for his SS tuning on my guitar. I will show them the suggestions I've got from the members here to compare notes, but I think I will give the advice of David and Dawn a little more credit, they are building it after all, and I certainly don't know what I'm talking about...I'd like to compare Ted Beards with b0bs' and Dans' hybrid...Thanks
