Topic: A question for all Franklin owners |

| I presently own a Franklin and wanted to purchase another, but due to health issues, Paul isn't accepting any orders at this time. My question is: are there any guitars presently being built that resemble a Franklin in quality, response and timbre? I presume to some, this may be a stupid question. I don't mean to sound aloof but until you have played a Franklin for a number of years, will you know the reason I am posting this query. The response is like no other I have yet to play. I am hoping some fellow Franklin owners may know of a builder that leans toward the same specs/mechanics. Thanks in advance for any insight. |

| I remember a few years ago people were saying that the Derby was close to the Franklin. I haven't played a Derby before but I love my Franklin. |

On the other hand, some people were saying that a Rains sounds like a Franklin about a year or so ago but you sure do see a quite a few Rains up for sale. But maybe thats just because there are way more Rains being made. The same reason you see a lot of Carters for sale. But i tell I played a new black Carter D10 about 3 months ago and damn, if I had a blindfold on, I don't know if I would have known the diferrence. Tone and playability were pretty close. Although not as quite as rugged and dead-on stops.

There is nothing out there that sounds like a Franklin.
There are lots of excellent guitars being made today. I don't think any of them are "bad". Just there is only one Franklin. |

I have played both my Emmons LeGrande II and my SuperPro along side Jack's Franklin many times and there is no way that either of them sound like his Franklin.
It is a sweet sounding guitar.

| Some more food for thought. My Franklin has Lawrence 710 pickups, so does Don's Legrande II. Don's Legrande II still sounds like an Emmons - the pickup doesn't change the characteristic sound of the guitar. |

There's only one way that I would sell my Franklin single neck & that's for a double neck !! AND I have the only Franklin with cutaway corners.Paul made this one in 1989 & was going to make all his guitars from that point on like that, but later changed his mind. I think that may be when he took ill. He said a lot of times the camera man never mad e it over from right to left to the nameplate so this way people would know it was a Franklin from the right side too. My intent is not to hijack this thread but Jack makes a point that I don't think I've heard before, but it really rings true:

The differences in sound from one pickup to another do seem to be very subtle. The sound of a given instrument seems to have so much more to do with the materials and methods used to build it. |
