This song is on David's latest CD. I'm telling you all these two guys need to do is find a modern day Merle or Buck and their lives would change overnight. They certainly have what it takes to bring back the "Country" in music with tight arrangements. And besides that, they are just fun to watch....

Look at 1:21. There is a shot of the steel player and he is not playing but you hear his part with the guitar player playing. Must be playing along with the track.

Joe, Thanks for letting me know about the U-tube with stealin corn. They really do a good job on it. It looks like he is playing on a E-9th tuning. I have always done the tune in C-6th tuning. I will have to see if I could work it up in E-9th tuning. It sure is close to the way that Roy Nichols and I played it. Norm

Hi Bill, We recorded the music in one take but then had to mime it while kay took a few video angles to build up the video as its only using 1 camcorder.. The same applied with Highway 40 blues.. I have a job remembering what I play each time so it may not always sync up to the video.. I have john coming over next week.. we are going to have a go at working man blues... I have never played it so we will see what we come up with, Regards, David

Its nice to see a reply from Norm.. I never got on with the C6th therefore worked it out on E9th.. All the notes are there somewhere..

David, Thanks so much for the great job you did on Stealin Corn. I will try to see if I can find it on e-9th but I don`t think it will be as good as you are playing it. Also like other things you are doing on U-tube, keep up the good work. Norm

Thanks Bill for the good words. Joe we do not do steelin corn anymore because we do not have much call for insturmentals anymore, but maybe when I do a steel show maybe I can play it once in awhile if I can find a guitar player that wants to play harmony. Paul I do not know of any one doing tab on our instrumentals. That album you put up has Stealin Corn, and also the live album Merle done in Philadelphia. From what I am told Bear Family has leased a lot of the Capitol masters and plans to release all the Live albums of Merle`s and they are going to put all the Strangers albums in a box set and it should be coming out after the first of the year. The Strangers have five albums so it will be nice to have them on C.D,s Thanks Norm

I have an Album i'ev had since the 60ies,with Merel and the Strangers live,,and Norm and Roy played "Stealin Corn" on it,,lawddd them younguns can play,,

I once played guitar on a session that Norm and Roy produced. After the recording, every one wanted to hear them play, so Roy said we would do Stealing Corn. He said Howard will play lead, Norm second part, I'll play third. Something came up so we didn't play it, which was OK with me because I knew I would screw it up and be embarrassed in front of Norm. I had done a lot of picking at home with Roy so he knew how I played, but I didn't want Norm to find out. Of course he already knew from the session we just did.

I will always believe that Norm and Roy, as well as all the Strangers were a large part of Merle's long
sucess, and it's still going strong, after all those years.

The live, "Fightin' Side of Me" album is one of the first I loaded into my new MP3 player over the weekend. Those early live albums always featured a Strangers instrumental.

Hey! I wonder if around here we should be calling that one Steelin' Corn.
