Dan, it sounds like you have a very good plan and I wish you the best. Keep in mind that whatever guitar and amp you decide on, when you get it all set up, you will most likely not be happy with the tone you get from it. This is very normal. You will not have the tone that you hear the guys in Dallas get out of the same guitar. Just don't get discouraged and quit or start looking at other guitars and equipment to get the tone you are looking for. Nothing will sound good until you learn to draw the tone out of it, so stick with what you buy through the initial learning process. ;-)
