I just went to the current Web Site that Fran has set up for Jeff's materials and started reading his articles area. It brought back some great memories of his Seminar days. He was really in your face with this steel guitar stuff (like a football locker room at half-time). I never met anyone so dedicated to teaching the steel guitar and in a way that a lot of the new people will never be able to experience. From the moment you walked into a seminar it was like you walked into a magical place and everyone was really energized by this man's glowing energy and leadership. He had a way of making everyone in the room feel like anything was possible with the steel guitar and he would prove it by showing us first.
Anyway, here is a quote from one of his articles that really reminded me of his down to earth perspective of the majority of us pickers. I feel so lucky to have been there and experienced his magic.
Quote: "Doesn't it bother you that you will take off from work early, on your wife's birthday, load up your steel, your two amps or speakers, your effects rack, a packa seat and drive a hundred miles each way to go play on a Saturday night in a band that plays wrong chords, out of tune and possibly with a girl singer or two, all for the price of gas money or less.... sometimes for free? That would not be so bad if we didn't lie about it the very next day and brag about how much fun we had. You do it, you have done it and you will do it again and you still don't know why."

I think Jeff could have been a minister. Actually, maybe he was... |

Jeff could have been a lot of things... actually, he WAS and most of all, successful in most every field he touched and got involved with. Everybody loves success, most everybody loved Jeff... and we here still do.

Agreed! He's still kickin' me in the pants via video tape, thankfully. I had all my training stuff layed out on the bar downstairs, thinking if I'd really learn this as it's intended then I'd be able to play this thing. I'm getting after it in more ernest than ever. Not just Jeff's. I've also got some from Herby Wallace, Winnie Winston, Doug Jernigan, Herb Steiner, Scotty and John Hughey.
Can't just cram through it though. Like Jeff always says, "Okay, it's your turn. Don't go any further until you get this right". _________________ HagFan
