Steel guitarist with Keith Whitley

Came across this on youtube. I didn't recognize the steel player AND, never knew of a Franklin Ped-a Bro/steel combo ever being built. Anybody know who this is and any info on the axe?

Looks like my buddy Carson Chamberland, he played steel for Keith and has a Franklin steel/pedalbro. He's a great player, good tone and very tasteful assortment of licks. He is busy writing hit songs instead of playing steel.

Thanks for the info! Knew I could count on the forum to shed a little light on this mystery. I wonder if Mr. Franklin made anymore of these strange beasts. Amazing how many"one of a kind"guitars are out there!

Carson Chamberlain played a Franklin steel/pedabro with Keith. He is now a great songwriter too.

It is Carson Chamberlain on a Franklin Ped-a-bro/E9th steel guitar. Mike Chamberlain is playing bass. Keith had a great band!

Carson's uncle (Mike's father) is Francis Chamberlain, a forumite and my good friend. Maybe Francis can give us the scoop on the Franklin.

Tony , Francis is a good friend of mine . After he left the Crusaders Qt. I played steel for them for about a year . Junior Maddox also played some for them . I did two of the Westfall school concerts with them . Anyway i would love to have a steel like the one on the site that Keith did live . I now play steel for a group known as Spirit Wind . We have a seven peice band . We have a studio of our own also . We do Country/Southern Gospel alond with some Praise and Worship style of music . Though this doesn't relate to the specific question at hand, Doug Jernigan rates mention here.
Doug played on the two J.D. Crowe and the New South
albums in the mid-late '70's that probably were Keith's first recorded forays into country singing.
One was titled "My Home Ain't in the Hall of Fame,"
the second I don't recall the title of.
And I believe, Doug did most of the studio playing on Keith's solo work.
His playing on the J.D. Crowe stuff is just dynamite.

"My Home Ain't in the Hall of Fame" was released on Rounder Records in 1979.
The second album was "Somewhere Between," (also on Rounder) released in 1982.

That's Carson on Steel! He is a great songwriter.Mike was Lorrie's Road manager for awhile after Keith's Death & then Jake.I think the last time I seen them Both (Mike & Carson) was in Sandy Hook, Kentucky at Keith's Home Coming with his Mother Faye & Family. Yes, that is Carson Chamberlain (my brother's son)
playing the Ped-a-bro/E9th steel. Carson,and my son
Mike (Bass) and my other son Mark was working with
Keith at the time of his death. (Mark ran the house
sound). I can't offer a lot of information on the
Ped-a-bro other than the pedals work on both
instruments. I think Paul Franklin only built a
limited number of them and I don't think he builds
them anymore. Carson started at a early age playing
lead guitar. He and his family had a country group
called "The Country Rhythms". Carson played steel
and lead with Keith from the time that he started his country band up until the time of his death.
When Keith died Carson started working as tour
manager for different artists. At the present time
he writes and produces. You will find some of his
songs on the recordings of Alan Jackson, George
Strait, Mark Wills, Billy Currington and some of
the other country artists.[/i][/b]

Thanks Francis, I thought it was Carson. We worked a show together at a place called Babes in Beuna New Jersey about 20 some years ago. He and Mike did a great job. Guitar great Joe Dalton and I backed the Kinley twins on that show at the very beginning of their careers.
