I've got a string problem with my single neck Fender guitar made by sho-bud. String 3and4 are zinging or are piercing when played.I've changed strings, one guy told me to put 30 weight oil on the nut roller. I need some information if some one can help me. The guitar is 10 string 3 and 4 pedal/knee levers.

Have you checked for any grooving on the tops of the fingers? If they're grooved you need to use some fine emery to polish them smooth. I've had good luck with some very fine emery boards that I cut narrow strips from (about the width of the finger) and use these to remove the grooves. Just be sure to keep the emery moving evenly over the top so you don't sand a flat spot on the finger top. when the string is off to do this, turn the roller on the nut a little to a new position then put a drop of light oil on it, sometimes this helps.

Hey Andy, do not use oil on the rollers they will dull your strings out quickly, check for rag lent or anything caught in the strings.

Curt, yes, finger nail emery boards. The ones I found are pink and have a very fine grit on one side and on the other side an even finer almost smooth feeling grit. Just go slow and use even pressure as you keep the emery board moving over the finger radius.

Ihave sanded the finger on #3, replaced the string and i still have the zing. I play thru 2 nashville 400 with a Boss SE70 processor. Can't get the Bottom low enough to take the piercing sound out of it.
I plan to take my sho-bud pro 111 to bobby sometime in the future and i guess i'll have him look at this guitar also. I have worn the 4th finger out and need to have it replaced. Bobby is the closest to me, I don't want to ship it. Sure do thank you for your help.

Curt, how about swapping out the finger that buzzes with another? It's worth a try.

Do you still have the original p-up in it?
If so you might think about scraping it and go for a replacement. Those p-up that fender used were cheepo to begin with just to have a fender look and fit into the design. It's not easy but totaly worth it to go with a modern style. I have put GL E-66's in two different gtrs and a world of improvment came about.
This is not a job for the weekend tinker. The whole tail piece has to be routed out along with some neck area. And while it's apart a few other minor things can be done to improve the action and tone.

Chris Yes its just like it was when it came from the factory. I'd be afraid to try to alter my guitar any way. I plan to take it to Bobby Seymour when i get the chance and let him check it out. I also have a 1975 pro-111 that has to have some fingers replaced also. I guess i've wore that pot-metal out. I sure do appreciate all the help with suggestions from each of you. The Forum sure is a big help.
