Dallas area Steel Guitarist needed

Post by Dick Wood »

I'm posting this for a friend who plays mostly around Dallas.

Steel player who would like to work an average of 2 or 3 weekends a month is needed to complete a band that will play a mix of traditional and some top 40 around the Dallas area.

If interested, call Gatlin Mcadoo for more info @903-574-5762

I checked with Gatlin and he says he's had a few players try out and the position is still open.

This would be a great gig for the player who only wants to work a few weekends a month.

When I worked with him, we usually worked 2-3 weekends.

Hey Dick,

I am available from time to time to sit in on any gig. I have told the Gatlin Macadoo band...and they were interested, but never called.

They may just be interested in a guy that is only committed to their gig. Which I cannot do. Nevertheless, I can do sub work when available and can learn originals the night before if neccessary.

Hope you are doing good brother.

Keep in touch.

Hi Billy,

It's been about a month since I talked with Gatlin although he did say his guitar player was doing double duty on steel and guitar lately.

If he needs you I'm sure he'll call because he likes a lot of steel in his tunes plus covers they do.

Come out and hang with us if you have some free time.

Billy,

We are at the Southern Junction Thursday Friday and Saturday but not Wed as they have some private party.

Next week we are at the Ranch House in Sachse.

You and I have never met and I only heard you play guitar for a minute or two at the Longhorn Saloon while I was taking a break from Rodeo Exchange one night so it would be nice to get to meet you.

Hey Dick,

We might not have ever met formally...but it is always nice to talk with you via phone.

Who was I playing with at the Longhorn? Everytime I played there I was sitting in for another player.

Next week may be an option to drop by...as this week is booked. Look forward to meeting you in person.

Thanks for offering me your rig when I subbed that gig for you (Coby McDonald) a couple of weeks ago.

Hope all is well with you. Have a great week at the Junction!

That was a long time ago and I had just dropped in since I was playing down the street so I have no idea who you were with that night.

Too bad you were busy this week because we could have used you Thru-Sat on guitar at the Junction.

Maybe next time.

David,

He had mentioned sometime back that there was some guy moving into town that had said he would be interested in the job so that might be the Austin player.

All you can do is hang in there and see what happens.

BTW- Do you play with a band now? If I could ever get a weekend off I'd like to come out and hear you sometime.

Since joining this forum,I'm amazed at all the steel players around D/FW that I never knew about and it would be nice to get to see some of them play.

Hi Dick
Yea Gatlin told me that too...

Until 2 weeks ago I was with Loose Change for about a year, but not now. ?????
Real strange deal there. Can't figure out what happened or why....

They just didn't want me playin in the band anymore.

They haven't replaced me they are just going without a steel right now it seems..

They make more money without me I think counld be the reason.....????????

I am looking for another band with a good fit for both of us...........
Less 70's Rock & More Country Music.........
I can follow a female singer now. B flat and all!
I can play weekends only because I have a real good job and I play because I love to play.
I will be traveling 4 States starting next month for my job also...

Hey Dick
Every 1st and 3rd Friday when I am not playin I sit in with Gary Wells at the Hurst Masonic Lodge. They entertain a few people there and it is kinda fun.
Feel free to come and sit in and play my steel.
The next night of music there will start up again the 1st week in December....Dec 7th.
Hope to see you there sometime soon.

Your band did what my old band West Of Nowhere did in that when I quit due to them booking more out of state, they decided not to add a 6th piece because of the money issue.

My current band just let their long time piano player go a few months back and kept the steel because the lead singer likes steel so we each now make another $20 per night.

I grew up in Hurst from the age of 2 until 24 and will always consider that my home. It would be fun to come out but I play 3-4 nights a week and we've only had two weekends off this year so it doesn't look promising.

If I hear of anything else I'll let ya know.
