Hotmail/MSN is Refusing Forum Emails

Post by b0b »

The Forum sends out a lot of email notifications. Today I received a whole bunch of returns from people with Hotmail or MSN accounts. Apparently someone reported a Forum email as spam, and they are now blocking ALL emails from the Forum to ALL of their customers. Here's a sample:
Connected to 65.54.244.232 but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 550 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons.
A block has been placed against your IP address because we have received
complaints concerning mail coming from that IP address. We recommend enrolling
in our Junk E-Mail Reporting Program (JMRP), a free program intended to help
senders remove unwanted recipients from their e-mail lists. For enrollment
instructions, please refer to: http://postmaster.live.com/Services.aspx#JMRPP.

I just discovered that WebTV has also flagged us as a spammer.

I am going to guess is that there are old email addresses that forum members may have abandoned. Eventually, some of these lapsed addresses get picked up by a new user. They receive an email from the forum that seems unsolicited and report as spam.

Also there are people who actually sign up to a listserver, and forget, and then incorrectly claim the subscribed service is spam.

They seem to have reconsidered. I applied to their spam prevention program, and I think that might have done the trick.

Please, people, never flag a Forum email as spam. It can cause a lot of trouble for all of us.

The problem persists. Please don't click the notification box when you post if you have a Hotmail email address.
