YouTube video of my band, The Blue Island Trio
This is from a gig we did in June at The Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The song we're playing is called "The Crwth". I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, and hey, we're playing a gig this Saturday at Rhizome (in Vancouver BC. That's 317 E. Broadway). Show at 8:00. Come on down!

I am just glad that I have a stop button for this. I know there is all types of music but what is this? When I took music in school in the 1940ths they would shoot you for doing this. I guess the young people of today are taught music that I cannot understand. But I am proud at 76 years old I don't have much longer to listen to music with 3 notes and what they call rap. If it don't have a story it ain't music. James
PS: I forgot to ask what does Crwth mean, If I knew I might understand the music?

I am assuming that James H is joking? I am almost 60 years old and embrace new sounds and musical ability that is outside the box like this piece. If not for further advancement and experimentation with traditional instruments where would we be? Beating on logs and banging rocks together?
Great work and your performance is an admirable effort!

A big component of this kind of music is the rhythm.James Harrison wrote: When I took music in school in the 1940ths they would shoot you for doing this. I guess the young people of today are taught music that I cannot understand...
Back in the 1940s they probably would have 'shot' you for playing beer polka music, which again is highly rhythmic for dancing.
Again, it depends...they would have shot you in Beacon Hill Boston, but worshipped you in Chicago.

Hey, James, thanks for stopping by. I'm just curious: why, on a site where people are generally so supportive of one another's work, would anyone feel compelled to actually take the time to dump all over someone else's creation in the snide and dismissive way you have here, much less when the musician in question is one as serious and capable as Tim obviously is? Not to your taste? Fine, but to attack another person's musiciality in the way you have here is totally uncalled for. I trust you'll get a more positive reception if you post any clips of your own.

I like the fusion of the "mountain element" with the rhythmic jazz punctuation. Sorry for the lame description but the sound is innovative. I'd love to hear some future lyrics for it.

Thank you for the feedback, everyone.
And thank you Howard; I have been quietly enjoying all your interesting and entertaining posts for several years. I am in the process of getting our first CD, Resonance, onto CD baby too, so stay tuned for that.
Regarding David's NS bass; from what I understand, he is very happy with it. I don't know too much about the details of his instrument, so if you'd like to know more, I can pass his email on to you.
Thanks again!

Hey--I'm late coming around to this. Great job, Tim!
fwiw---a long time ago I wanted to share something I loved with a guy who had never heard much more than his local tribal sounds (top 40 radio, I think) so I played him some Charlie Parker. He said that it sounded like a sick goose honking. "That's not music". I decided not to bother playing him the Ornette I had planned on next.
Anyway, good stuff, man.

Again, thank you all for the feedback. Chris, the tuning I used on this song was DADGAD. That also partly answers Alan's question as to the origins of the title; the suspended fourth quality of this tuning made me think of a Crwth. It also just struck me as a good and interesting title.
So thanks once more for the support, folks! I sincerely appreciate it. Here's a link to another YouTube video of The Blue Island Trio. This one is called "Rose & Thorn Entwinement Suite". The idea with this song was to create two themes; one a simple chorale-like piece in a major key, and the other one an odd-metered rhythmic piece in a minor key. It's kind of a story of these two songs coming together, entwining, and then disentangling and coming apart again. I hope you like it.

Tim Tweedale, I want to say you are a fine Gentleman! You have not said one word against me as a person. I may not like your music, but as a Gentleman you are number 1. If you heard my Classic Country and Classic Pop you probally would not like it, and if you did not like it I would expect you to give your honest oppinion. Don't tell me you like it when you don't. This is America, freedom of speech. I hope you go far with your music.
Other Posters: I don't like to be attacked as a person as some have, this Forum is not for that. If you hear my music and don't like it, tell me you don't. Don't attack my person as that is not nice.
I thought this Forum was to talk about music not critize people. I hope this will be my last post on this topic.

Tim I just listened to Rose and Thorn. It started beautiful and about 25% it got wierd and got better then the drum took over and lost you then it was smooth and sweet again. I suppose I just don't understand the new styles of music? I suppose I need to go to music school again. It seems that is what the young people like today and I will not try to slow down music progress, so I will accept it and not comment anymore.
