Seems that when she isn`t reinventing the limits of the possible on the steel guitar, the Forum`s Susan Alcorn writes some fine prose. Good enough, in fact to make into this volume, published by a major house (da capo) and edited by a literary big shot (Mary Gaitskill). What`s more, her piece will resonate,I`m sure, with anyone who`s been a gigging musician. Our world has rarely been so well illuminated. Some of the other pieces left me pretty cold (might be the subject matter-Hip-Hop, Reggaton) but it`s great to see one our own in such august company and to see a book like this feature writing by someone who really plays and knows music.
If it had be me, I`d have taken a full page ad in the L.A. Times.
Check it out when you get a chance.
