Yes. A big thank you to you all.
You have no idea how important that is to some.
I have always been a great fan of people like Speedy West, Jerry Byrd and so forth. I only started visiting conventions from the late 90's on. I was fortunate to meet and spend an afternoon with Speedy and exchange some written communications with Jerry Byrd. But I have never ever seen them play (except for a couple of Tennessee Ernie Ford clips on youtube recently).
It is historically important that this material becomes available to the following generations of steel guitarists.

Thanks! ... J-D.

Thank you Scotty for letting all of us who cant, or have not yet visited the ISGC (or any other big steel convention) see these great players.
I am only one of many who look forward to seeing Bills videos on youtube ,there would be a viod in my time on the internet were they not there.
Where else can the steel guitar get worldwide exposure as good as this ?
Personally I think these videos have done almost as much to help new players gain enthusiasm for this instrument as your instruction books have done for many years now.

A big thank you to Scotty for all he's done for steel guitar. Not just the videos but steel guitar shows that go way back before he started ISGC. He has helped many steel players in their time of need , and I won't go to much into that, but Scotty has kept many of them afloat fiancially. He has talked many players to come out of retirement to play once again and they started a whole new career. He recoreded some of the best players when no one else would. He has taken young talent and brought them to attention of all of us. There is not an award big enough for the likes of "Scotty". But maybe a real big thank you from all of us will make his efforts seem worth while. Scotty does not take pats on the back easily, but lets all do it anyway. Scotty thank you for all you have done for the steel guitar and its players. It has not gone unoticed. Loveyou my friend. And Bill you have done so much for the steel guitar as well keep on keepin' on loveya pal, Bobby

Very Happy
Scotty and Bill; you both do such a grand service to all steel players every-where; I watch Bill's videos faithfully and know the work of Scotty's putting on that sensational International Steel Guitar Convention every labor day week-end. All I hear are good words about it; have never been to a big steel guitar show in my lif-time of loving and playing this instrument. Started my career in music back in 1952 with one of the Harlin Bros. Multi-Kord Pedal Steels.Wish this SGF had been in existence back then; but at least today we do have the likes of SCOTTY & BILL; thank god for them..Bernie Whoa! Whoa!

I want to thank every one that has given me so praise and thank you. I am not alone in this venture. You should be thanking Bill Ferguson for taking his time to put all those players on the forum for your enjoyment. What promted me to OK more players for Bill to add to the list was I seen a section with Paul Franklin and I was thrilled! AND I had no thought of trying to copy it for later enjoyment. Bill says you can't copy it anyway. Paul played his first show in St. Louis when he was 16 years old. We have had a wonderful friendship all these years. I feel like a second father to Paul and also to Tommy White. Tommy played St. Louis when he was 12 years old. I have that performance on cassette. WOW! He played Orange Blossom Special as fast as the fiddle player and they slowly made the tempo faster and faster. Tommy finally had to give up but as a last resort.

I started the video at the International Steel Guitar Convention in 1979. That was about the time when the video became available. Duane Marrs helped me get the video machine and the camera. The machine was a Pansonic and you could overdub on it without erasing anything. It didn't take long for us to "burn" the screen on the camera and the recordings may not be so good BUT they are about the players some of which are now deceased. Jerry Byrd, Jimmy Day, Curly Chalker, Julian Tharpe, Zane Beck, Leon McAuliffe, Speedy West, Joaquin Murhpey, Jeff Newman, Jimmie Crawford, Hal Rugg, Little Roy Wiggins and I could go on and on.

If I don't transfer them pretty soon from VHS to DVD they may not be playable. I have two machines now that can transfer the VHS to DVD but none of us at Scotty's Music has the time to make that transfer! Bill Ferguson is the only person I know that is truly honest about what he is doing and more importantly how he is true to his word. "Don't make copies".

In the meantime, I will check with Bill and see how and if he has time to help with the transfer of VHS to DVD and then post them on the YouTube. I have an estimate of about 500 hours on VHS that Bill doesn't have. We had many local shows sponsored by an organzation I started and Jerry Byrd came up with the title, "Steel Guitar International." We have many hours on video of those shows. Some local players on them but also a name player or two on each show. I published a SGI Newsletter for 16 years. We I gave it up we over 2,200 members. I started it in 1977.

You want to talk about photos of a player? I have over 13,000 photos starting from the 1960's through 2007.

One more thing. It probably wouldn't take much for me start the videos again.

A special thanks to Bobby Caldwell for bringing to light some of the things I would never tell.

Now you know, "A Part Of The Rest Of The Story."
