Well, I thought this one was especially interesting (bar technique and staring set aside) because it was quite bluesy and that Mr. Koeffer did an excellent job at that musical idiom too.
Blues or not, I have always missed that this old style of playing has vanished from conventions... even the "old" guys don't seem to do it anymore or only as a burlesque.
There is a lot that can be learned from that style of playing... not only that it built the foundations for what ever followed but as a friendly reminder that you are supposed to MOVE your bar on a steel guitar, concept which sadly seems to have eluded many who started out on E9th later on.
I have not seen Bobby play live. I have noticed what appears to be mostly thumb only picking on the right hand and no finger damping with the left hand. I have not seen this style playing except from Bobby. Is he handicapped or is he just good at a strange (to me) style of playing? Or was this just an old style of playing. Is this style used on Pedal and Non Pedal?
If you havn't seen bobby in person your missing one of the best.He is still out there after them. The only difference in his style now is that he does it standing up.
