Does it matter if its on a pedal or a knee lever? Is it used in combination with other pedals?

I'm having a hard time enough, coping with the standard levers......let alone trying to emulate Mr. Franklin...

I would like a copy of the cassette, though !! Very Happy Very Happy

Joe

I have the Franklin Pedal at the Pedal zero position. I also have it split on a couple of knee levers as well.

I am in Plano and you are certainly welcome to come over and try it out if you like. Drop me an email and we can setup a time if you are interested.

Regards,

Mark T.

Joe,

He uses the Franklin pedal in conjunction with the E>Eb and in conjunction with the string 1 & 2 raise. He has a CD that teaches the use of the pedal and another for the strings 1 & 2 raise. No tab, just a very good talk through lesson. You can put it on a lever, but it will limit its use. Also, alot of folks split the change. I like the lower on all three strings. He actually recommends the change to be at P zero (P0) if you're Emmons setup and P4 for Day setup; eventhough he has the Emmons setup on pedals ABC (kinda) he has his setup on P4. So, I guess it's what you get use to using. I have mine on P4 because I didn't want to go through all the work to have a P0.

Oh Well I had mine on the first floor pedal and to be honest it wasn't the place for it in my opinion !

Is it really something you would use enough to make it worthwhile adding to an existing guitar?

Roger, if I had your money, I'd add TWO Franklins (Benjamin).
I've got it, but I only lower 5&10 with the pedal, and lower 6 with RKL.

Roger I have Garland Nash Carter and it is on 4th pedal. I bought Pauls cd at the show looks easy and usefull to use.I came across a nice change, right knee rt. lower Es, like from AB on 5 back to 3rd fret release you go from a 5 to a 1 chord sounds good.
Still learning, trying every day to clean up and get better. See u at Saluda in Nov. Good to see you in St Lou.

If you lower 5 & 10 to an A, you will have to back the split tuning screws in the end on the neck out to let the changer finger move far enough to get there. How do you tune the splits then?

My PF pedal is at #4 on my new Derby. It's a stiffer pull than the others but I don't mind.
If I were to move it, like on my next steel, I would put it at # 1.

I like it on P4 (Day setup) Easy to bounce off of it and the A pedal.

So it can be used in combination with the A pedal?

Play 4&5, raise 5 w/ pedal 1, release, lower 5 w/ pedal 4, release; all while playing 4&5. Listen to Daryle Singletary's "Around Mirrors" in the chorus right after the word "Mirrors" (Thanks Mike Johnson Smile

May I ask ....

Until one actually knows and understands the phrasing and use of the 4th Ped, and starts applying those uses, how would they know if POS 0 or POS 4 would be best for them ?

the most simple get started phrase..

you decide.

Play string grip 10,6 and 4

one long sustain

with PEDS AB IN

releases PEDS AB

hit the 4th PED

release the 4th PED

now press AB peds again...

is outside PED 0 better or inside Ped 4 better ?

who knows...for me outside PED0 is better as I don't have to cross the C pedal.

But thats just me...

Well, I guess no one tunes the splits if they use the Franklin pedal! Shocked

Roger, I tune the splits and have the Franklin change. It can be done. But, when you play an Emmons, anything is possible. Winking I also split the change by lowering 5 on P4, and lowering 6 on the LKV.

OK, Kid...
You didn't go into enough detail!!! You had to back the split tuning screws in the neck out to allow the changer fingers to move far enough to lower 5 & 10 a full tone. Now that those screws are backed out, they can't be used to tune the splits. Are you telling me you have another pull on those strings to tune them with a nylon hex nut??? And, if you can do it on an Emmons, I assume you can do it on your G2?
