Overall approach to the basics?

Hi out there, I have to say, as a beginning I'm still having a hard time seeing how to systematically learn this thing, and to learn the basics in the way that will pay-off the most down the line. I have a music degree and guitar experience, so the theory & terminology aren't even part of it. Bu...

Check. FYI, it was brought to my attention (and I was aware) there are some intellectual property issues here. The spirit of the offer was more along the lines of making a 'backup copy' of a pretty fragile piece of media for an existing owner who might not be able to. While this is legal (it can get...

Winnie Winston book record...

Hi, I checked this out from the library and have it for a couple more weeks. The flexi-disc (record) in the back cover is in pretty good shape. Would be useful for anyone to have a digital copy (CD or files)? For example, if yours is damaged, you can't play records, or you buy a used copy without on...

Thanks...Is it recommended for a beginner to use something heavier or lighter than this one? I find I do need to use some pressure to get the strings to speak all the way.

Any teacher reccomendations in the Mpls area?

Hi,
Would like to get a sense of who's available and willing, and see if it's a good match. I've gotten a couple of names already, just putting the word out for any others.

Thanks,
Brian

Is this steel useable?

Hi out there, Very, very, very new here...This what my local music store had. It doesn't fit the description of any book/video I've seen ("bullet"style), and the Shubb site is pretty vague. But is it a dobro steel? Usable or not for pedal steel, and why? (Hopefully the picture cuts it-- Fo...

Just wanted to post a follow-up thanks to everyone who gave me even-handed advice took the time to steer in a good direction. I'm getting off the ground...slowly, but methodically, which is my way of doing it. Particular public thanks go to Brandon Wright, who sold me his guitar and dealt with a fai...

Any opinions on the Dekley? I need to inquire about its condition, but it's posted on Steel Guitar Canada (thanks for the links!). I'm tempted by it because it seems reputable & somewhat more solid than Carter (although there are a lot differing opinions!) and less than 1/2 price of the Stage One.

Thanks so much for point me in the right directions! I passed on a Sierra Artist around $900-- Seemed like people liked it, but for that I might as well just buy new for a little bit more. But I came across this Dekley Student (3x3) for around $400 (US), which might be a good balance? They seem to c...

That's what I gather...and it sounds like the money could be a decent amount under $1000 if I can find a used one?

Wow, thanks a lot! I guess I didn't realize there were that many choices in the range I can afford. They all seem viable-- The Stage One looks great and has really glowing reports across the Forum. I would be a fan of buying one used...The issue is finding something and not taking 3 months to do it!...

Hmmm...well, disappointing, but I'm hoping you guys helped me dodge a bullet. What are price ranges of the beginner models you mentioned? I have a good window now to be able to start, and I'm worried about being able to find anything feasible for me, but I'll check the models recommended. I did read...

Need help ID'ing this ASAP...

Hi out there, I'm brand-spanking new and looking to start playing-- Never even touched a pedal steel before, but am ready to go in. I have had a lot of trouble just finding one here, and Carter now seems questionable-- they're not returning dealer calls & Starter is back-ordered (looks like they...
