Hello, Deluxe 34. Got my new U4 stand today and the reso kit works very well with my Weissenborn. Lot to be said for sitting up straight, having your arms level, and neck not bent. Better tone from the guitar, too. And just a few minutes to set the stand up for lap steel. Big thanks, Mark Roeder.

Duesenberg Pomona 6. I've got three other lap steels -- two of 'em 'vintage' -- but if I had to flee a forest fire with one, this is it. Superb finish, great pickups, 25 1/2" scale, built in capo, two benders, and solid mahogany -- sustains...forever. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/...

Olli, pretty sure there were two by Larry Progreba and two by Paddy Burgin. Sure glad I didn't trip over my amp cord carrying one back to its case. Tight quarters and lots of musical instruments.

Nicest is an understatement, Terry.

Thanks again for your out of the blue kindness, Mark. I call that truckma. Versus the "what you deserve" of karma. Ha. Not entirely sure I actually need another Weissenborn, though. Lindley uses and recommended Seymour Duncan Mag Mic pickups. Those double poles look like a smart idea to me...

David Lindley, Deluxe 34 stand, and a solar National

You'd be grinning like an idiot, too, if you're a David Lindley fan. Last weekend, Lindley played two sold out shows in our town -- Penticton, BC. I went to both. Friday with my wife and Saturday by myself with an up front seat so I could watch his hands like a hawk. On Friday night, talked with him...

One more testimonial. Doug's tab books opened the world of C6 lapsteel for me. Good arrangements and the recordings as something to aspire to -- especially that intonation. Didn't take too long before I was able to work out arrangements on my own and write songs as well. Certainly the way I'd recomm...

I don't think too many Americans worry about that, Doug. No disrespect here. My wife is Californian. And the ex. But I do laugh when I hear something like 'knitch' instead of 'neesh' for the French word 'niche'. Another Americanism that cracks me up is going from the French boo-tahn-ee-ay to boot-in...

My son is fluent in Japanese, Doug, and advises teh-su-ko or as above a truncated tess-ko ['teh' E as in 'ten']and goo-ya-tone is what a JAPANESE person would say. No real stresses on the syllables. In related news, it's tah-kah-mee-nay for the guitars. Not tacka-mine. The first two instrument names...

Just copied the comment from the site re Lindley's tunings and certainly not based on scholarship on my part. Mostly added for the bit about the mandocello strings and low G, which Lindley explained on stage when he played our little town two summers ago. Can't remember what the song was, though.

"Lindley's tunings include F (F C F A C F); G (D G D G B D); an open-G variant, G G D G B D (used on "The Jimmy Hoffa Memorial Building Blues"), with a mandocello sixth string tuned an octave below the fifth string; C6 (C G C G C A); and D6 (D A D A D B)." http://www.weissenborn....

A6 tuning. C# E F# A C# E. Open, you have three A chord inversions. At the fifth fret, D, with same inversions of course. And at 7th fret, E chord. That tuning is low to high. Same strings as a C6 set (when ordering strings) tuned C E G A C E. That's what I'd do, in any case.

Apart from the Hawaiian or country swing sound, Mark, there's an awful lot you can play in 6th tunings. Pretty well everything, in fact. The main advantage of the 6th tunings is having various full minor or major chord inversions in a straight bar position. I enjoy playing open G or D or GBDGBD Weis...

Worth checking out the Superiors in your price range. I've been happy with my Sitka spruce top Weissenborn with Sunrise pickup. Not a lot of volume unplugged, though. I'll be looking for a deeper bodied model in future but won't part with this one.
