I was interested in the guitar because it was American-made and sold for $1,200 new. Based on these comments, I see my reasoning was faulty.

Here's a YouTube video of a resonator guitar with a lace pickup that I just came across:

I think it sounds pretty good, but I'm no expert. I don't even have a resonator.

Hound Dog Dobro

Someone's selling a US-made roundneck Gibson Hound Dog Dobro not far from where I live. The price seems reasonable ($550). I've never played one, but have been listening to a lot of bottle neck blues lately and am getting the urge to try some myself. I haven't heard much discussion about these guita...

MXR Distortion +

I second the MXR Distortion +. It's a great value at about $60 new! I use it more often than my other distortion pedals that cost 3-4x as much.

Power Slide Markings

I recently bought a used Power Slide and haven't played it much yet, but I have found the design on the fretboard to be distracting while playing. Also, the cutout forces a specific orientation of the instrument to the player's body, which can't be altered too much. For the money, though, the tone i...

Has Anyone Played A Lapro Electric Resonator?

Just curious if anyone's played one of these?

They look pretty cool and sound good too.

Thanks. It does sound like it is the student model. The sound hole has white painted "binding" and the bridge is metal. I didn't examine the nut closely (wanted to play it to bad), but it looked like it was made of wood. I'll take the nut extender off and post some pics later.

Old acoustic Oahu lap steel

I picked up an old acoustic Oahu lap steel this weekend and I thought I'd ask for some advice. It appears to be all original except for the tuners, which I want to replace. Anyone have any suggestions on where I should go to get a good and time-appropriate replacement set of tuners? Also, the nut ne...

I tried raising the pole, but that didn't work. In taking off the metal cover I discovered that one of the magnets was replaced by a spray painted piece of wood. This is the first item I've ever purchased on eBay and its a lemon. Lesson learned. Any suggestions on where to get a new pickup or to fix...

Ernie Ball Volume Pedal

I'm a beginner too and I'm using an Ernie Ball pedal. So far, I've got no complaints with it. The pedal moves smoothly and has just the right amount of tension in my opinion. The tension could change over time with use, however, requiring adjustment. I think I bought mine new for under $100.

Suggestions on how to fix lower pickup output on one string

I bought an old Supro online and the output of the pickup is much lower for the third string than the rest. I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix this problem. Thanks.

I'm a flat picker who new to lap steel and have experienced similar frustrations with the thumb pick. I'm using a National thumb pick and found that I needed to round the pick end a bit with some sand paper. It is starting to feel more natural for me, but there are still some tunes on which I still ...

Great topic. I recently started playing the lap steel due to a finger injury and don't have any history with the instrument. As a guitar player I spent most of my time trying to emulate contemporary guitarists, who obviously borrowed from Chuck Berry and others, but I never had an interest in going ...

It certainly does look like other BR-6s posted online. I've also seen some similar looking laps called Royaltones (not the early ones with the horn, but later ones from '56-'57). I wonder what the difference is. Thank you.

Help identifying Gibson lap steel

I picked up this old Gibson lap steel yesterday and would appreciate any input into its origin. My guess is that it's a 1957 Royaltone, but am not sure. The serial number starts with a 7 followed by four other digits. It looks like the body is made of mahogany with a maple top. The fret board appear...
