Remembering Leon McAuliffe 30 years ago today...

One of my first steel guitar heros left us 30 years ago today...I remember playing tapes mom and dad recorded from the TV of the Austin City Limits show that Leon led the Texas Playboys on. I had the honor of meeting him at Bumpershoot in Seattle in 1985. Thanks Leon! https://bb.steelguitarforum.com...

Seattle WSS Founder and legend Ronnie Hutchinson

One of the most fun, amazing and LOVED people I have ever met passed away on June 24th after a battle with cancer. Ronnie Hutchinson was a founder of the Seattle Western Swing Society, and is in multiple halls of fame including both Seattle and Sacramento. He was a member of the host band for the Se...

Truitt Cunningham RIP

Just heard through the grapevine that we lost another Texas Playboy...Truitt Cunningham passed away on June 5th. One of the greatest events in my life was when Truitt was running the Playboys for the Bob Wills Birthday weekend at Cains in 1996. On the noon broadcast on KVOO, Truitt dedicated 'Little...

Over the last few years I've been using a Fishman V-200 plugged directly into a 1972 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Amp...the tone is fantastic!

Dale Morris has some great suggestions on his website about how to amplify a fiddle correctly:

Glynn Duncan RIP

From Billy Mata's Facebook page: I just got word of the passing of legendary former Texas Playboy, Glynn Duncan, also little brother to Tommy Duncan. He would've been 92 this October. We will miss him, and I will still continue the fight for more recognition and tribute to his brother that's long ov...

Don Rich Sings George Jones

The other day while shopping on Amazon.com I stumbled across this gem! There is no steel guitar on the album. This is so exciting, as a lifetime Buck Owens/Don Rich fan I never dreamed three was more Don Rich recordings available. I hope they keep digging in Buck's vault and uncover more forgotten m...

I love so many of those great Bob Wills recordings, but my all time favorite is 'Hang Your Head in Shame' that Jimmy and Cameron launched with those fantastic twin guitars. The band was on, Bob was ecstatic and magic happened!

Rest In Peace Mr. Wyble. Thanks for all the great music!

In 1987 we went to see the "Three Legends" Merle Haggard, George Jones and Conway Twitty at the Opera House in Seattle. Merle was the no-show, so George and Conway played extra long sets. George wanted to do a Merle Haggard song, but his drummer couldn't get the right beat so he yelled at ...
