I watched the livestream of the steel guitar arts council and Jim's performance with his son blew me away. Absolutely fantastic - truly musical playing, great songs, perfect duo arrangements. "Jim Hoke OMG!!!" is the appropriate sentiment.

Thank you b0b for your monumental contribution to this instrument. This forum is a trove of insight that has no comparison. It's an important place, and everyone who loves the instrument is much better for it's existence. My condolences to his family and friends.

Ben and Bryce, thanks for checking out the album and the kind words. This record is 95% c6 - there's about 30 seconds of E9, and the title track was recorded on A9(baritone e9). So, is it still "not country" if it's all c6? I wonder what Jonny Lam would think...I'm always wondering what Jo...

Steel seems pretty up in the mix to me. Robert Randolph sounds great, as always. He's an incredible musician.

Yes, ron - please elaborate. To me, this classic "disney sounding" ballad by Reba doesn't scream "Rap Crap" - but I'm sure you have a compelling reason for saying that.

Thank you Daniel. The main bit of steel was recorded through a 70's fender twin and has a lot of reverbs and delays on it. Most of the extra sounds are the steel resampled, pitched up, and run through filters etc. This was just a one off for my friend's re-works album. New album will definitely be o...

Thank you Ben and Lee. New album will be a full length, all pretty down tempo and chill. I used a Strayhorn era Emmons Legrande III on all of it. There's about 15 seconds of E9, and one baritone A9 song(Also a LLIII), the rest are all c6.

New C6 single - A Horse Named Zelda

I've got a new single out titled "A Horse Named Zelda". Drums, bass, and steel. The steel was played through a 50's tweed deluxe into a blend of delay and digital/spring/plate reverbs with no other effects. I hope yall enjoy and thanks for checking it out. http://bit.ly/3ol1xTh https://www...

Joe - thank you, that's the one. I started with those gauges and tweaked a couple. I remember it being pretty close to that starting point.
Ah, to make $32 million doing anything. Maybe if I write an algorithm that writes the next My Heart Will Go On...

I've been on the road, I will try to track down the gauges or get a caliper out this week. I based the gauges on an old Lane Grey post here that I can't find again.

Solo Baritone pedal steel

Thought some might find this interesting - I did this rework for a friend's record. The tuning is A9 and it is very inspiring. Having the e9 voicings and bends in this register is a lot of fun. 10/10 recommend putting this tuning on your extra steel and never getting hired again. You can be bendy, o...

Abe - Sadly for music fans everywhere, I am not giving up steel. I'm just moving some gear and switching to a new amp setup of 3 Session 500's and an old Model A chassis.
