What effects can you use to get the distortion sound he has? I just bought an Asher Jr with the Lollar pickups.

I did not have the standard Beard, but I owned both a Mike Auldridge Model six string and an eight string. They were both cannons.

Hi Don, I am far from an expert player, but I do play mostly blues style lap steel in open E tuning, from high string to low that would be EBG#EBE. (I'm also assuming you have a six string guitar) If that is the same tuning as yours, then the open string strum would sound as an E major chord, E=root...

The string, when it vibrates, vibrates in a circular pattern and not just side to side or up and down. If you picture the string moving in that way right against the edge of the slot, you can see how it might get "pinched" if the slot edges are to tight, and this can be a cause of buzzing....

Depends on the kind of music you listen to, and want to play. Good condition older dobros will give you the older sounds if that's what you prefer, and they are generally less expensive than the new guitars that sound similar, though not by much. It also appears your slots are pretty deep, they should only be half the diameter of the string. This happens over time from the sawing action of changing and tuning strings, or perhaps lack of knowledge of the builder. I would get a new nut from Beard (the site is called "Resophonic Outfitters...
